What if...? (SPOILERS)

Anyone who's played a Square/Enix game knows that they all rely heavily on plot. Even the slightest details can alter the entire story in ways you can't imagine. In this topic, you may take any part of a story in any Square/Enix game, change it around, and ask other people what they think would happen throughout the rest of the game if the story had happened the way you tell it. For example, one could ask (Mild FFIV spoilers) "What if Edward had never seen Anna's ghost?" And somebody else could say "He'd never have decided to journey w/Cecil and company, and thus the game would have been much better."

NOTE: Once you post a response to somebody's question, you DO NOT have to post one of your own. Only post a new one if you want to. I suppose I'll get the ball rolling, so here goes (Final Fantasy VI spoilers)

What if Locke never took Rachel into that cave?

If Aeries stabbed Sephiroth, the game would be over.

If Magus started hitting on Crono's mom, the game would be rated T. But plotwise, I doubt much would happen. There's no way that Crono's mom would take Magus seriously.

The game wouldn't be over because Jenova and Shinra would still be out there.

Aeris is incapable of killing Sephiroth.

She could stab him, but with what? He'd just stand back up, do that maniacal laugh thing, and then kill her. Woot.

What if, in FFIV, Leviathan didn't attack the ship?

Well I assume that Jenova would die of grief, and that Shinra would realize the error of its ways for completely unrelated reasons.
