| Guest Posts: n/a | Everyone in this forum has probably been knocked off their chairs at the sight of this question. I have lived for 16 years, and only now I wish to finally find out what final fantasy is (no pun intended). I already know that its an anime rpg, but that's all I know. I've looked on websites too find out info, but they aren't helpful for FF beginners, so I came here. Can someone explain to me: how many FF games are there, what console houses what game, what is the general theme/time period of each game, and what, in the average opinion, is the best 2D one. (I hate to ask this question, but also, which one is the most like the Zelda series...) Thanks |

| Guest Posts: n/a | they aren't at all like zelda games, they're turnbased. If you want zelda like, try secret of mana, same company. |

| Guest Posts: n/a | They're turn based RPGs. You give your characters instructions, they execute them when their turn comes, they gain experience points, they cast magic, they may go up a level and get stronger. how many FF games are there, Too many to count. what console houses what game, This is probably incomplete. The number of FF games is overwhelming. NES - Final Fantasy SNES- FF2, FF3, Mystic Quest PSX - FF7-9, Anthology, Chronicles, Origins, Tactics PS2 - FFX and X2 GB - FF Legends 1-3 GCN - Crystal Chronicles what is the general theme/time period of each game, Most are fantasy-ish with dragons and monsters. Most like to also blend in machines and technology. and what, in the average opinion, is the best 2D one FF3/6. which one is the most like the Zelda series...) I haven't played it, but Crystal Chronicles sounds the most like Zelda. But from what I've been told, don't touch it if you have nobody to play the game with. ![]() Where are these lemmings going? | Guest Posts: n/a | Crystal Chronicles is easily the most like Zelda. Especially in single player mode. I will have to agree with Codie that FF3/6 is the best Final Fantasy (not just the best 2D one, but the best one overall). Don't let the /6 throw you off. In the US it's just called FF3. Japan got more Final Fantasy's for NES and SNES, so for them our number three was number six. Go buy it now. Namyar RULES!!! FF Legends isn't really FF, but it is quite good. Personally, I would say FF6 is not only the best 2D FF, but the best FF period. It is notable that many of the RPG stereotypes that exist today exist because of FF. For the best explanation of FF, I'd say play the games for yourself. EDIT: Final Fantasy is an RPG. The only one that I need, it's the RPG for me. Final Fantasy is all that I play. All other games are lame, it puts them all to shame. [ April 07, 2004, 10:25 PM: Message edited by: Falco53 ] |

| Guest Posts: n/a | Avoid Final Fantasy Legend and Final Fantasy 2j (Released via Final Fantasy orgins). Final Fantasy Legend will make you think that eating your own leg would be a better way to spend your time and Final Fantasy 2j has the Worst leveling up system in the history of gaming. Final Fantasy Legend 2 is a great game but unfortunatley, it uses the god-awful-leveling-up-system. :E Final Fantasy Legend 3 is also pretty good, the best thing is NO GOD AWFUL LEVELING UP SYSTEM!!! But it's also the hardest. |

I found the game to be addicting; I've played through it more times than I can count. (Not because it's uncountable but because I don't remember.) |

| Guest Posts: n/a | Leaving out FFTA was an accident (stupid me). I intentionally left off the Japan-only ones. Plus, 2j is on Origins, and one of the other two is on Anthology (forget which). ![]() Where are these lemmings going? The Super Nintendo Super Shire! Hop in line and follow them there! |

They were the games that tried to do something differrent. I prefer the tried and true method of FF4 and FF6 myself. FF5 was quite good, though. What about FFXI? Is it out yet? (I haven't been following very closely.) |

| Guest Posts: n/a | I think FFXI is out, and it was also accidently left off, and was also accidently forgotten to explain why it was left off. Actually, the reason I left the Japan-only games off... good luck obtaining a copy then being able to play/understand it (the original versions, at least). ![]() Where are these lemmings going? | Guest Posts: n/a | "ahem" Final Fantasy is a group of stories about characters going on adventures to save the world from the evils that plague it. They usually start out with 1 main character who puts together an entire party, or a group of characters are sent on a journey. They usually start out as having an original mission, and then unfolding the entire plot. This aspect has been used as early as the first Final Fantasy. also note that Final Fantasies are not sequels to the previous ones, except for X-2.So far there have been 18 Final Fantasies (As far as I can remember now): Final Fantasy,II,III,IV,V,VI,VII,VIII,IX,1X,X-2(The first sequel to a Final Fantasy),XI,XII,Tactics,Tactics Advance,Crystal Chronicles, Origins(Which contains remakes of the first two.) | Guest Posts: n/a | Master HAnd, i suggest you start - if you plan to - with ff7 and ff6, they'll give a good enough feel for th series and then you can judge yourself how you like it. And if not those, then Chrono Trigger. God bless that game. |

| Guest Posts: n/a | If you want to get into Final Fantasy, play the first. It gets you used to the regular FF ways. But, if you just want some dang good quality RPGs, play FFVI or Chrono Trigger. |
