Okay, maybe someone has made a topic about this before. Buut if so feel free to lock xD Um okay. So, who has played through Super Mario Bros 3 without using the whistle to warp to world 8? I tried, but I always either lost the game at world 6 or got to world 7 with one life left. But I'm still trying -_- Also, there are only 3 whistles, right? 2 in World 1, One in World 2? I can't remember exactly. Might be 1 in World 1, one in World 2 and 1 in World 3. Also, what is your favorite world? =D Mine is world 4. GIANTS FTW! |

It's actually pretty fun to go through every single level, rather than skipping a bunch. The first time I did it, I barely made it to the end. Every time after that, I had so many lives and so many items that I wasn't worried about having a game over at all. |

I will be able to do this one day. I swear! I always use a bunch of times >.< Even if I don't use any whistles. And then all my items are gone should I get anywhere close to World 8. But like what are your guys fav worlds? =D |

Giant World was the best, though. I loved how when you punched a giant brick, it turned into four regular sized bricks and fell away. Geez, now I have to fire up my emulator an play me some SMB3 now. =/ |

And I've always had a thing for World 5. My brother and I always got a kick out of that spiral castle when we were younger. I feel like it's related: | ||

A lot of replies! =D Yeah, I remember noticing the giant bricks breaking like small bricks. Graphic mistake ftw! Kind of reminds you of how sprites in old games follow the camera and you never get to see the back of them. |

It's just a demonstration of how awesome giant world is. Giant blocks are made of your normal, mortal, human-sized blocks. |

A while back I was missing my copy of SMB3, since it's on the other side of the planet. I've got Allstars, but it's just not the same, so I downloaded it on the virtual console and played it straight through. It's not really tough, since you can have 99 lives by the end of world 1 if you want to. I usually just grab them as I go though, since it's not necessary. |

I remember being crazy about getting as many 1UPs and coins as possible. I remember seeing the coin ship and feeling "this is so awesome!!!!!". Now I'm like, psh, it's more efficient to grind that one goomba pipe. I think that fun part of me died a long time ago. |

When I was young and the game had just released, I found the warp whistles fascinating, but I typically collect and avoid using them, now. I really enjoyed demonstrating the coin ship and white mushroom house + anchor to SD for the first time. She'd always thought they were just rumors before that. Not a mistake, they were just forced to re-use tiles to conserve the very very limited space of the NES cartridge. Last edited by Cosmonautical; 02-23-2011 at 07:58 AM. Simple isn't it? |

From a developer's standpoint, though, they didn't know how much space they would save. Or, how much would be cut from the final build. You don't use up all your space and THEN try to cut it down, that's a waste of manpower. |

Though yeah, it's probably one of those awesome things that was put in place because of tech restraints. Some of the coolest things in the old games only came about because they had to get creative with what they had to work with. I find the level design in older games tends to have a lot more personality because the developers at the time had to squeeze every last drop out of what they had. |
