Foreshadowing?

I just read an old interview with Mr. Miyamoto that was written shortly after Super Mario World came out. In one section he explained why Mario looks the way he does. He then went on to say:
"Who knows how Mario will look in the future. Maybe he'll wear metallic clothes!"

Foreshadowing or just a really big coincidence?

No way that's a coincidence, unless he's just a crack head. Who would say that if it didn't mean something?

I think it was originally a joke. You know, like Mario being a spaceman or something. But maybe he got the idea from that.
