| Guest Posts: n/a | There are many reason why Mario games are not what they really are. The most obvious is the super mushroom! What happens when you take shrooms? I'm not sure, but I think you hallucinate, lol. I mean, they think they are plumbers that have to save the world, but everything they do is not real. Yoshi is probably only just a horse, Bowser is a giant galapagos turtle, Goombas are probably rats (and you can kill them by steping on them, but when they hit you, you die...). And take a look at the scenery. What the hell are those big round blue things in the backround with the white dots on them (in SMBW). And since when did pipes come up out of the ground and house man eating plants that can only hurt you when you see them. Otherwise, you can go through the pipe when you don't see them. And another thing. Why does a leaf turn into a racoon tail that can make you fly? Racoon's don't fly! The same thing with the feathers. How can they put a cape on Mario. They're feathers, not capes! And the hammer brothers..what are they. The plumbers opposite...the mad carpenter? I can got on forever...i'm not saying I don't like the games, I just think that Miyamoto was a little high when he thought this up. |

I hope you're all big enough Mario fans that you know the real reasons for all these 'hallucinations' right?... No? Let's go down Mario history/mythology lane! Miyamoto has a record for borrowing ideas. The Zelda games came at a time after the movie 'Legend', which he says gave him the spark for this type of game. Donkey Kong was loosly based on King Kong. Don't think that this diminishes the quality of any of the games, they're just the roots. (NOTE: Do not complain to me about the lawsuit of MGM Vs. Nintendo where the judge ruled that Nintendo did not steal the concept of King Kong. It is a given fact that a big ape capturing a woman, then going to the top of a structure was taken from King Kong. The judge determined that DK was so loosely based that MGM's case that it had no merit. But even more to the point MGM had no grounds to file a lawsuit because they did not renew the rights to King Kong, thus King Kong is not owned by any film company.) Mario Bros. is one of the earliest games that didn't have an outside influence. It was taking the established Mario character (+ a brother named Luigi) and putting them in a a gimmicky screen where pipes were utilised to bring out the monsters. In SMB Miyamoto took Mario and Luigi with their established pipes... but what about the environment? A sewere wouldn't cut it... He got inspired by 'Alice in Wonderland' (Notoriously known for having been the product of mind altering drugs itself. But most credible literary scholars will give the facts that there is a 90% probablity the author did not write it while high). The mushrooms come from the Caterpilar's mushroom that grows people big and small (originally in SMB Mario and Luigi were always going to be big until Miyamoto re-read that bit). The whole Mushroom Kingdom was later based around that. The beanstalks were the product of the 'Jack and the Beanstalk' fairytale. As far as I know, Mario's jumping (to quash enemies) was the product of two things- Jumping has always been a part of Mario's games, heck he was first called Jumpman. -Jumping on top of goombas and koopas etc. was the most logical way to attack. Guns are too violent, they did not want the fire power used all the time, and NES games where a person punches to attack are pretty difficult (fun, but usually difficult. Anyone ever played Kung Fu?). As far as I know, Koopas (formerly Shellkreepers) and King Koopa were an original idea. Though the fact that Bowser breaths fire shows the influence of dragons in mythology. The Raccoon Tail and Tanookie Suit come from Japanese mythology. Some magic racoons in the mountains are said to eat magic leaves (there's where the leaf comes from) and after eating, for anywhere up to a few days can change into stone (the Tanookie suit's power) and/or fly (both the Racoon power and Tanookie suit's power). In SMW, the feather comes from the Dumbo story. The feather from the story makes sense enough, birds can fly thanks to feathers... makes sense as far as magic is concerned. The cape comes from superheroes in general. True Superman doesn't fly because of his cape, but his appearance and powers are just so proliferant that it makes sense that a guy with a magic cape can fly. |

It was written by 6 guys in a cabin for a weekend who were totally wasted on Frodis. And remember, "I'm-a Believer, number one!" | |
