| Guest Posts: n/a | First a little question I want to get out of the way. In Rare's games is Donkey Kong (the new one) the son of the original Donkey Kong (Cranky Kong) or grandson? I've heard both, although grandson tends to be the most popular of the two. Anyway, onto the real topic at hand - Donkey Kong Jr. What do you think of him? Cute? Ugly? Annoying? Funny? Do you think that he should get more recognition? Should he star in another game of his own? What has been his finest moment so far? Should Rare have used the original DK and DK Jr. instead of the new DK and Diddy? Did you enjoy the original Donkey Kong Jr. game? Was it better than the original Donkey Kong? Personally Donkey Kong Jr. is my favourite Nintendo character. He's one of the earliest characters and I love the charm of old arcade games, especially ones as playable as this. He's cute without being overly cute (how can you not go aww at that sad face he makes in DK Jr. though?). I love the mischevious quality that Donkey Kong '94 brought to him with the flip-switching and grinning and such like. Whilst DK was big, angry and all about power Jr. was not powerful but mischevious and sneakier. They made a good pair - and not many gaming partners are a father & son relationship. Whilst one of the cool things about him is that he is a recognisable but not often used character, I do think that he should be used a BIT more often. Maybe in the next Smash Bros. or Mario Kart or something. Personally I think that after Donkey Kong '94 is ported to Game Boy Advance they should work on a sequel starring DK Jr. I think his character fits well with the puzzle solving platform gameplay style and Donkey Kong '94 offers lots to be expanded upon. |

At first the current DK was said to be the son of DK Jr. and the grandson of Cranky. (just check out DKC 2 if you don't believe me. It's got several places in both the game and the manual where Cranky refers to DK as his grandson.) An adult version of Jr. was originaly planned to make an apearance in DK Land for gameboy, but he was cut from the final version of the game for unknown reasons. Around the time DKC 3 was released, Rare changed their story to say that DK is actually a grown up Jr. Maybe they thought it wasn't confusing enough. ![]() |
