[Inferno Dragon]

this fanfic is rated PG-13 for death, mild violence and cussing. tell me what you guys think after you read this.

chapter 1of4: funeral for a hero

it was a beautifull day in the mushroom kingdom Mario and Luigi had left their house to visit princess Peach and Princess Daisy for a picnic.

Luigi: are we all set mario?

Mario: yep, we have the food and the blanket. so when are Peach and Daisy getting here?

Luigi: they should be here in 30 minuits.

Mario: so what will we do until then?

Luigi: well, how about we take a little walk and get some flowers for the girls

Mario: great idea Luigi! lets-a go!

Luigi: promise me you won't do that around me again.

Mario: okay.

so the brothers go off to pick flowers for the girls, but little do they know that a dark force will tear them apart forever.
suddenly from the sky a bullet bill struck mario to the ground then three more exploded on him. Luigi was knocked back by the blast, he started to get up when a giant bullet bill exploded and knocked luigi back to the ground.
when Luigi woke up he saw the blackened body of his brother mario laying motionless on the ground.
Luigi rushed over to his brother and held him in his arms.

Luigi: Mario, Mario speak to me!

Mario (weakly): Luigi, please take care of Peach for me.

and with that mario let out one last breath and he was gone. Luigi began to cry as he held his dead brother close to him.

Luigi: no, how can this be? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

at that time Peach and Daisy were walking over the hill when they saw Luigi holding Mario closely, the girls rushed over to Luigi to comfort him for his loss.

later that day was the funeral everyone in the mushroom kingdom showed up for the funeral, even Bowser made an appearance to proove he wasn't the one that killed mario.

Bowser: you all know I disarmed my forces 5 years ago. and I'd never KILL Mario, maybe rough him up a bit but I'd never KILL him! *sniff* I have to go, I've got something in my eye.

Bowser ran off crying over marios death

meanwhile, in a dark corner of darkland where even Bowser is afraid to go to, a sinister figure broods in his dark fortress.

???: mwahahahahaha! now that mario is dead no one can stop me from taking over the mushroom kingdom AND darkland. prepare to meet your new master world! MWAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

back in the mushroom kingdom, Peach and the others are trying to cope with mario's death.

Bowser: I can't believe my greatest opponent is dead, if only I could have one last fight with him.

Luigi: my big brother's gone, how can I make it in this world with out him?

Peach: *sniff* Mario... *cries*

Wario busts into the throan room and starts cheering and danceing around that mario is finally gone.

Wario: WOOT! haha! he's finally dead!

Bowser: shut up Wario!

Bowser punches wario in his big nose hard enough to make it bleed. Wario stumbeled back in pain and fell flat on his butt.

Luigi: get out of here Wario!

Wario: all right, sheesh!

Wario walks out holding his nose

back at the dark fortress...

???: RUBY! status report on the attack forces.

a female soldier clad in red armor that resembeled peach appeared out of the shadows.

Ruby: the first wave of troops are ready sir.

???: exelent. prepare to invade Bowser's keep!

chapter 2: an empire falls

???: soon, darkland will be mine and then the mushroom kingdom, and then Daisy's kingdom, then the world! Ruby, ready the troops. we're going to Bowser's keep!

Ruby: yes sir, I shall ready the troops at once!

Ruby left the room of this new evil and went to ready the troops for the invasion of bowser's keep. she walked into the barrics and rallied a team of black koopas, goombas, and one mean looking shadow dragon were lined up ready for combat.

Ruby: so you're the eliet team Sapphire and Emerald told me about. onyx team right?

koopa 1: yes ma'am!

Ruby: yay! okay we're going to infiltrate Bowser's keep and take controll of it, for master shadow!

Onyx Team: YES MA'AM!

Ruby lead the team outside, the team including Ruby climbed onto the shadow dragon which took off into the sky to fly them to Bowser's Keep.

meanwhile back at the mushroom kingdom...

Bowser: I still want to know who killed mario! I'll rip 'em apart!

Luigi: I feel the same way, but there's nothing we can do for now.

at that moment a red koopa and a green koopa rush into the throanroom and run up to bowser

red: sir! a team of black koopas, black goombas and a shadow dragon have invaded the keep!

Green: we're the only survivors sir, everyone else was destroyed, I've never seen a team that powerfull before.

Bowser: you mean that my entire army was defeated by an unknown team of black koopas, goombas and a Friggin' shadow dragon!?

red: well, their leader was a girl in ruby armor, she looked a little like peach, sir.

Bowser: I see...

Green: she yelled out "for the glory of master shadow" just before the attacks began sir, I'm not shure what that ment though.

Bowser: master shadow, I've heard that somewhere before. of corse, the legend!

Peach: what legend?

Bowser: long ago the koopa wizzard Kameak told me that two people from earth named Mario and Luigi would foil many of my plans to capture a human princess from the mushroom kingdom, however he also said that in a time of peace for all the kingdoms of this world an evil man would take controll of everything and everyone by killing Mario, the only one that could stand in his way. but in the one moment where all hope was lost and the shadow of darkness covers this world, a hero from far away will appear and defeat the darkness for all eternaty with the light of hope.

Luigi: well it looks like the legend is comeing true.

Bowser: your right, and if any of us try to stand up to this evil force we'll end up like Mario.

Peach: so what can we do?

Bowser: if you surrender peacefully then they won't kill you or any of your subjects, but any resistance and they will kill everyone and everything that moves, including you Peach!

at that moment a girl wearing green armor that looked like daisy burst into the throan room of the mushroom kingdom. this was one of the generald of master shadow, emerald.

Emerald: I'm Emerald, if you surrender now I'll spair your kingdom and your people, however if you resist you'll end up dead like all those soldiers who resisted ruby at bowser's keep.

Peach: *sigh* okay, I surrender.

Emerald: good, if princess daisy has the same concern for her people then I'm shure she will be safe, but just to make sure I'll let Luigi go and tell her Sapphire is comeing. Sapphire is ruthless when it comes to fighting.

and with Emerald's signal Luigi ran off to Daisy's castle to warn her of Sapphire's invasion.

chapter 3: a world of darkness, a light of hope

Luigi was desperate to beat Sapphire to sarasaland and warn Daisy of Saphire. Luigi ran from the mushroom kingdom as fast as he could passing houses and pipes along the way until he fond a hanger that had an airplane in it.

Luigi: I'll just borrow this until this whole legend comeing true stuff is over with.

Luigi ran into the hanger and jumped into the plane, he started up the engine and took to the skies to try and get to sarasaland before Sapphire did.

Luigi: don't worry Daisy, I'm coming.

the plane spead through the sky when all of a sudden a salvo of bullet bills were chaseing him to try and blow the plane up.

Luigi: uh-oh... this can't be good!

just as things seemed at their worse, the engine died in mid-flight.

Luigi: well crap on a stick!

the plane spun out of controll and started plummiting to the ground.

Luigi: I'll have to jump. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!

luigi jumped from the plane with a magic feather in hand. in a puff of smoke a yellow cape appeared on his back which he used to fly the rest of the way to sarasaland.
at the gates of Daisy's castle stood Tatanga, the space alien. Tatanga walked up to Luigi and greated him.

Tatanga: hay, Luigi right? man it's good to see you. how's Mario these days?

Luigi: he's dead.

Tatanga: oh. I see. I'm sorry to hear that.

Luigi: I need to see daisy.

Tatanga: so do I but she won't let me in.

Luigi: Princess Daisy, Please let us in, it's really important!

Daisy: is that you luigi? hang on a sec!

the masive gate opened and the two went inside, the gate closed behind them as they walked to the throne room.

meanwhile, with Sapphire and her team...

Sapphire: how much farther to sarasaland? I'm getting bored.

blue koopa 1: well Pauline, we're about 5 miles east of it, so we should head west

Sapphire: I thought I told you never to call me by that name!

blue koopa 1: EEK! sorry mistress Sapphire!

the resemblence of the blue armor-clad sapphire to pauline, mario's love interest back in new york, was uncanny.
Sapphire slapped the koopa and the troop moved west by 5 miles. once at the gates of sarasaland Sapphire smirked and barely flicked the gate to cause it to topple to the ground in thousands of pieces. she walked into the courtyard only to be met by Daisy.

Sapphire: so your Daisy, I'm going to make this very simple hand over controll of your kingdom to me or my forces will kill everyone here including you.

Daisy: looks like I don't have a choice. I surrender my kingdom over to you.

Sapphire: exelent. kill her and everyone here.

Daisy: WHAT?! I SAID I SURRENDERED!

Sapphire: damn, oh well I guess I can kill someone later.

and with that the world was cast into darkness. a dark shadow covered the land and the sun was blotted out by this neverending darkness.
the people of sarasaland and the mushroom kingdom were now enslaved by master shadow and his minions.

17 years passed and the people of this world had lost all hope that the legendary hero will save them from this terrible reign of evil.

in the long and harsh desert of Sarasaland a man shrouded in a brown cloak wanders aimlessly to find a place to stay for a day to rest. the man comes upon a ruined village where the villagers are bossed around by blue goombas like slaves to an unknown master.
the cloaked man tries to pass through the village but is stopped by a blue koopa.

koopa: excuse me, you have a permit to be here?

man: ...

koopa: well...?

man: no. are you the one that enslaved these poor people?

koopa: no, Lady Sapphire's the one you need to talk to about that. she's in the castle up that way.

man: thanks.

the man walks through the village and heads on through the desert to Sapphire's castle. he fought his way though sand storms, pokeys, and even cobras to get to his destination.
after several hours of searching he finally found Sapphire's castle. he watched from a distance how two blue goombas walked through a solid wall out into the desert.

man: hmm... that must be a secret enterance.

he walked up to the wall and stepped through the illusion to find himself in the dungeon of the castle. he saw a girl in a cell who wore a tattered yellow dress and an orange locket. he walked up to her and removed his cloak as he knealt down to her.

Daisy: who are you? are you one of sapphire's henchmen?

man: no.

Daisy: then who are you?

man: I am the son you had to give away, my name is Marius.

Daisy: Marius? my son? I don't believe it! is it really you marius?

Marius: yes mother. I should have never left home if I had known you would end up in this cell.

Marius, clad in a red shirt and blue overalls like mario, with soft blue eyes and long dark brown hair covered by a red cap with a white M on it, he unsheaths his sword and stands up, he takes two quick swipes at the bars and sheaths his sword again. the bars fall to the ground as he helps his mother out of the cell.

Marius: where's father?

Daisy just looks sadly at the floor then at Marius

Daisy: your father left here 2 years ago, he told me he was going to the mushroom kingdom to check in on things there. but he hasn't returned sence. I think that he might be... he might be...

Daisy burst into tears, Marius held her close to comfort her.

Marius: I'l find father. and whoever did this to our world will pay for what they did!

he releases Daisy and walks up the stairs to enter into the main hall. he walks down the hall untill he comes to the enterance to the throan room. he shoves the double doors open and walks in. several koopas and goombas try to attack him but all of them were easily struck down by his jumping techniques and swift punches.

Sapphire: who are you?

Marius: I am Marius, son of Luigi and as the crown prince of sarasaland I demand you leave before I show you why they call me the destroyer of darkness.

Sapphire stands and points at marius, a huge gust of wind hit's marius hard but he doesn't budge an inch. Marius looks at at Sapphire intensely as he walks towards her.

Sapphire: you can't be the same guy, master shadow killed him over 17 years ago!

Marius charged at her and delt a devistating combo of blows to the blue armored general. this attack caused her armor to fall off and she ran out the front door crying.
Marius knelt down and touched the armor to gain the power of the wind.

Marius: my work here is done

Marius leaves through the front door, headed to the mushroom kingdom to find his father Luigi.

Marius: father, I will find you.

Chapter 4: the light to shatter the darkness

Marius walks the long and harsh road to the mushroom kingdom fighting off enemies the whole way. he finally stopped at a village under the controll of a set of green koopas and goombas. he walked into the village and knew the same thing that happened to his home in Sarasaland had happened to the mushroom kingdom. he walked through the village knowing that if he defeated their leader everyone would be freed here. he walked on but the mushroom people thought he was a slimmer and taller mario.

musroom person 1: mario? is that you?!

Marius: the name's Marius.

he continued through the village until he found a fire flower. he nkelt down to touch it and when he did his overalls and hat turned white and his shirt turned orange.

Marius: what is this power I'm feeling? could this simple flower have given me an ability?

Marius pointed at a goomba and a fireball shot from his finger and hit the goomba which destroyed the goomba.

Marius: what power, and from such a simple thing as a flower.

he continued to the mushroom kingdom with his new found power to defeat Emerald he pushed the doors to the kingdom open as he walked through the main hall to the throan room. he upened the door to see Bowser, Peach, and Luigi chained to the walls with Emerald sitting on the throan.

Marius: you must be Emerald, let my father and his friends go!

Emerald: and what if I don't?

Marius points at the ground in front of emerald and a fireball shot from his finger and schorched the ground in front of Emerald.

Marius: that.

Emerald: take your best shot.

Marius pointed an emerald and a stream of fireballs flew strait at emerald hitting her right in the chest, she stumbled back and fell still being hit by the relentless stream of fireballs.

Marius: if you surrender I'll stop and let you free my father and his friends, then you can go home with your troops like sapphire.

Emerald: all right I surrender!

Marius stops his attack and Emerald got up, she snapped her fingers and the chains on Bowser, Peach, and Luigi disappeared. the three ran up to Marius and hugged him.

Luigi: my son! you saved us!

Bowser that's all fine and dandy but what about my keep! that master shadow still controlls it!

Peach: you bknow, you remind me of your uncle Mario, except you don't have a mustache.

Marius: hang on. I need to ask Emerald something.

Marius walked up to emerald and touched her armor to take the power of water and earth.

Marius: where is Bowser's keep and where is master shadow?

Emerald: they're in darkland. please leave me alone, I never wanted to hurt anyone.

Emerald got to her feet and walked out the door takeing her troops with her back to master shadow's fortress.

Marius: this isn't over yet, I still need to make the long journy to darkland to defeat master shadow.

Bowser: but what about my keep?!

Marius: I'll make shure I get it back for you. oh, and father.

Luigi: yes son?

Marius: you need to get home, mother thinks your dead.

Luigi: I will son.

and with those parting words Marius leaves the mushroom kingdom to get to dark world and defeat master shadow once and for all.
but just then, Yoshi ran up to him and spoke to him.

Yoshi: Marius, please take me with you, you can ride on my back to make the journy alot faster.

Marius: of corse my old friend.

but before he could climb onto Yoshi's back Toad rushed over to him. with a backpack.

Toad: wait, you may need these. they're power-ups your father and uncle used on their adventures. I also packed some 1-up mushrooms and a few 3-up moons, they give you extra lives.

Marius: extra lives?

Toad: yeah, by useing those instead of dieing dieing, your come back to life at the last check point. you may need them when you fight master shadow, I doubt you'll need them before that but if you do, don't hesitate to use one. oh I almost forgot.

Toad pulled what looked like a watch from his pocket and attached it to Marius's wrist.
a 3 showed up on the watch.

Marius: what's this?

Toad: it's a like counter, it shows how many lives you have left, if you die when it's on zero that's it your history.

Marius: thanks for the advice toad.

and with all that out of the way Yoshi and Marius began their journy to dark land.
the journy was long and hard constantly fighting off enemies and overcoming obsticals, dodgeing traps and defeating powerfull Foes. through dense forests, rocky terrain, dark caves, haunted fortresses, and deep waters untill they finally reached the firey shores of darkland. the two advanced through the heavily guarded terrain having to endure tanks, battleships, an air fleet, and powerfull enemies that kept coming untill they finally reached Bowser's keep. Yoshi told Marius that this was as far as he could go and ran off to yoshi Island.

Marius: it looks like I'm on my own from here on in. there's no turning back now.

Marius ran inside Bowser's keep and was immedietly attacked and captured by two black koopas. he was dragged through the keep until they reached bowser's throan room where Ruby was standing and pacing.

onyx koopa 1: mistress Ruby, we have captured an intruder.

onyx koopa 2: what shall we do with him Ruby?

Ruby: hmm... leave him here, I'll take care of him. now get back to your posts!

onyx koopas 1&2: yes mistress.

the two koopas left Marius in the throan room with Ruby.

Ruby: you're cute. I never wanted this job it's so boring. my friends got sent back to the fortress because of you but I'll put that aside and give you a big hug.

Ruby glomped Marius and kissed him on the lips, but this allowed Marius to take the elements of fire and light from Ruby's armor. after ruby stopped the kiss she released Marius and told him exactly where master shadows fortress was. he thanked Ruby and asked her if she could withdraw her forces from bowser's keep which she agreed to do. Marius thanked her again and left through the back door. he trudged through the darkest corner of darkland to find the black fortress, the lair of master shadow.

Marius: well here I am, the final fortress awaits.

Marius walks in not shure what to expect here at the black fortress so he activates a star and charges through the fortress at the speeds of a ninja to get to the center of the fortress.
Marius now invencible just plowed through traps, enimes, and fire, but the star wore off once he cleared the checkpoint.

Marius: that was my last star and I need to get through this water area. looks like I need the frog suit.

he put the frog suit on and dove into the water. the frog suit allowed him to swim with ease through the water. he swam by bloobers and cheap-cheaps until he made it to the surface again, he discarded the frog suit and took a step on the bridge when he saw a hammer brother throw a hammer at him, he dodged it and put on the hammer suit. he tossed hammers at the hammer brothers who disappered when they got hit. he ran on until he came to the boomerang brothers, he hurled some hammers at them and they disappeared, he ran the rest of the gauntlet and finly took the hammer suit off. he put the tanooki suit on asd saw that a ghost area was up ahead. he walked forward and turned to stone to led a set of boos by. he reverted and ran for his life. Marius got through the ghost area easily and discarded the tanooki suit. with all resources used up except one fire flower and all those extra lives he decided to use the extra lives and put them in his stock, once all of those were used his total number of lives was 40. he crossed the second check point and entered the room in front of him and activated the fire flower. he stepped into the dark room and lit the tourches with the fire flower ability.
he finally saw master shadow with his own eyes.
master shadow was clad in black armor complete with a helmet to cover his face, but two glowing red eyes could be seen under the helmet.

Master Shadow: so, we meet at last Marius. my generals have told me much about you, how you have the same abilities as your dead uncle mario.

Marius: you killed him, you enslaved this world, and you killed my brother Luigi Jr.!

master shadow: your right, except for the last part. you see marius, I defeated the real master shadow but his spirit still dwells in me. for you see...

master shadow removes his helmet to reveal his face. a look of shock appears on marius's face.

master shadow: I am your brother!

Marius: but how is that possible! why would you do this brother!

shadow master: it's simple, once he destroyed my old body, I simply took his. I've used bowser, wart, wario, and even tatanga like this for decades! mario kept foiling my plans so I created a body of my own to use to kill him and forever rid myself of that neucance. but my plan changed 2 years ago when your brother fought me and destroyed my new body so I took controll of him like I controlled those other fools in the past.

Marius: let my brother go, your fight is with me!

master shadow: if you defeat me, then your brother is free to go, but in exchange you'll have to give me your body.

Marius: all right. it's a deal.

Marius unsheaths his sword and master shadow unsheathed his own sword. the two charged at each other and clashed swords, the two locked in battle matching eatch other blow for blow. energy errupted from their swords as they clashed causing the room to light up brightly.
Marius jumped back and fired of several fireballs at master shadow who just shrugged them off like they were nothing.

Marius: that's it, I've had it! I'm tired of this, I'm taking you down NOW!

an orb of light energy formed in his right hand and was charging up.

Marius: this is for all the people you've hurt and killed. light of hope, harsh judgement attack!!!!!!

the orb errupted into a beam which extracted a formless mass of negative energy from his brother and destroyed the negative energy mass in a flash of shining light.

master shadow: NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE!!!!!!

Marius fell to his knees and so did his brother

Marius: it's finally over, the darkness is finally gone.

Marius weakly gets up and helps his brother up. the brothers walk out of the fortress with the three generals back to the mushroom kingdom to watch the sky return to a light blue again, and to see the sun for the first time in their lives.

peace once again fell across the land and all was well again.

one year after the defeat of master shadow Marius and Luigi Jr. visited Mario's grave and poured a pick me up soda onto Mario's tombstone.

Marius: now I know you can rest in peace uncle.

suddenly a pillar of light shot from the ground and the casket rose out of the ground. it shattered into thousands of pieces and a sillowette of the legendary hero Mario was encased in a sphere of light. the sphere landed gently on the tomb stone and the light was gone.Mario stood on the gravestone alive and well again.

Marius: AAAHHHHH IT'S THE GHOST OF MY DEAD UNCLE COME TO HAUNT ME!!!!

mario and Luigi Jr laughed and everything was as it should be.

You shouldent call that long at all! I have 14 chapters of a Mario fic on Microsoft Word and one chapter is 5 times the size of your whole story. Oh and I still didnt finish it either. The story was ok...I guess.
