I didn't really care if Crono won since Mario was in the finals this year and I didn't want it to be a repeat.

Sephiroth is the villian from FF7, and Alucard is Dracula's son.

Link should be in the contest. If it's a popularity contest (which is what it boils down to), then the most popular video game characters should be in it. Think of it this way, does anyone ask for the Yankees to end their organization because they've won 26 World Championships? No.
