Don't argue, we do. The brilliant original and drop-dead hilarious original, on N64, known simply as 'Paper Mario'... The fantastic sequel, building more upon what the original brought to us, and adding awesome graphics... this genius of a game, found on the GCN, is subtitled 'The Thousand-Year Door'... And, the newest addition to this masterpiece of a series reminds us of the original side-scrollers we came to know and love, as well as our favorite Mario RPG (by that name), and yet still maintaining the ingenious aspects that make a Paper Mario game.... this beautiful creation is known as 'Super Paper Mario'... This is a thread to talk about these awesome, awesome, fantastic, superb, freakishly cool games. As a conversation starter, I personally think SPM had the far most touching plot... TTYD had the most awesome levels (GLITZ PIT FTW!), and of course, can we ever, ever forget that without the fun, hilarious, ingenious original game, these others would never exist? |

Super Paper Mario I recently played through again, and I was taken aback at how deep and touching the story really was. Apparently a few months is long enough for me to forget how much I was bawling at the end. I'm in the process of playing TTYD a second time right now. Like I told CL earlier, it's odd suddenly playing a game where you can't point the controller at the screen for help or shake it to perform stylish moves. But the game's still very enticing. ![]() |

| Senior Member | I've seen people play all of them, but I've only played TYD. It was fun, but the turn based combat was hard to get through.(Not as in difficult, but the combat form is why I don't play RPGs.) The rest of the game was a lot of fun though. (Err..Almost all of the game. Flurrie needs to die.) |

| Godly Member | I was disappointed with Super Paper Mario. It all felt really easy. I also felt it wasn't a true sequel to the other paper mario games. (TTYD felt like a true sequel to the original paper mario) The game felt pretty straightforward. You beat one door, put the star in it's pillar, go to the next door. The introduction of chapters also made me feel like there's a loss of depth in the true vast world of paper mario. __________________ ![]() Click here to level up my card! |

It keeps the hilariously awesome paper-ness that is customary of all Paper Mario games. It ties in those elements of old-school Super Mario games we all loved back in the day; for me, it's like a nostalgia antidote. SMRPG, anyone? Peach, Mario, Bowser. (Well, and Luigi... but it sucks you can't play him on the final boss.) |

We get that crappy hilltop silhouette. :/ Oh, and (VERY small spoiler, but it happens at the end of the game.) when I beat Count Bleck as Bowser, I jumped on him and was stuck between him and the ceiling. I kept bouncing between them. He died in about 20 seconds. It's still a kickass game. ALL OF THE BADDIES ARE AWESOME. No, BEYOND AWESOME. |

Also, it felt alot like SMRPG, in a few ways. As for those who haven't played it, have a Wii, internet compatability with your Wii console, I totally recomend getting the original. I'm with Aaron on the heartwarming part in SPM. The technique they did on the story line was amuzingly cunfusing, which is really cool in, like, a movie or something. Make you have to figure out what's going on. Kinda makes it thriller or something. TTYD was a total linked-gameplay sequel for the first. Making a familiar game with a load of new twists is always plausable. Of course, the real root to the Mario RPG franchize is SMRPG, which we could all thank for the Paper Marios. | Senior Member | I've never played SPM, due to the Wii being so rare. But I have the other two, and both of them are awesome! (the original was better than TTYD.) |

The level design is well thought-out, and the writing is as fresh and funny as ever ("You lost everything. Way to go, genius"). So far, TYD stands as my favorite (by the way, Rogueport's theme is one of my favorite songs in a video game). I blew through it way too fast, though, and I'll try not to do that with SPM. I really should replay the original sometime soon. It was simply excellent, and it's been about 8 years or so... |
