Gender: Posts: 13,965 Thanks: 982 Thanked 1,691 Times in 809 Posts | What's Mario's best flying suit/ability? Raccoon/Tanooki Mario (SMB3): The original flying Mario. This was probably the best flying power Mario ever had. Flying was convenient and easy control, and you could also waggle your tail when falling to ease your drop and maneuver better. This ability remains the best to date. Rabbit-Ear Mario (SML2): This was Mario's special ability in Super Mario Land 2. It's been a very long time since I've played this game, and I never did extensively, but if I remember it was somewhere along the same lines as Raccoon Mario. Cape Mario (SMW): I thought of this as an "Advanced-Raccoon Mario". Like Raccoon Mario you could fly in the air and float down slowly, but you could also plummet into the ground to knock out enemies. The only problem is that controlling flight was very difficult to master, and I never really found it that useful during the game. Flying Cap Mario (SM64): This one could have used some improvement. Flying with it is very annoying since you lose momentum fast, and then you would have to swoop down and back up to regain speed. This made it more or less impossible to fly upwards, so the Flying Cap more let you fall with style. (LOLZ BUZZ LIGHTYEAR) Bee Mario (SMG): Bee Mario, despite its quear [sic] appearance was pretty nice. It gave you the ability to hop from platform to platform in short bursts of flight. It also allowed you to climb up honeycomb walls. The only downsides were that the speed and flying capacity were limited only to extended jumps, and that you would lose your power by touching water. Flying Mario (SMG): Catch a Red Star, and Mario's suit would invert to black and you would be able to fly anywhere you wanted. The flow and control is amazing, and it certainly capured the awe of being able to fly through space without need of a Launch Star. There was one problem, though: you only get to use it twice, at the Comet Observatory and during the Purple Coin mission at the Gate. It's an amazing component of the game that essentially went to waste. Share your thoughts. |

Did you know? If you use a Tanooki suit item on the map screen immediately after using a P-wing item then you'll end up with a P-wing Tanooki suit. Also, you forgot Boo Mario. A little akward to control, but unlimited flight and the ability to pass through walls was nice. Just remember to stay out of the light. And while not technically powerups, let's not forget about Blue Yoshi from SMW, or the Skypop that you fly through the last level with in SML. ![]() |

It's possible to float higher, but I wouldn't count it as flying. As for the P-Wing, I'd classify it in the same category as Raccoon/Tanooki Mario. And for Blue Yoshi and Skypop, I didn't include them because they're not powerups for Mario, they're powerups for the vehicles he's using. (Yoshi can fly, Skypop is a plane.) |

However, I'm gonna go with Cosmic Mario simply because, due to the 3-D ness of the game, it made me feel like I was flying with Mario. A fantastic ability.. it sucks that you could only use it in two places. :/ |

| Senior Member | Um... Cosmic Mario was the name of the Mario doppleganger on the comets. I believe you were thinking of Flying Mario. |

| Senior Member | CuccoLady: If you haven't finished SMG, don't read this. Cosmic Luigi is cooler. I think that P-Tanooki Mario is about as kick-ass as it gets. Getting anymore kick-ass would cause the boundaries of time and space to implode. That sounds like it would be fun to watch. |

(The spoiler) That should be obvious. But that doesn't apply to this poll. And, like I said, I like Flying and Raccoon Mario equally. I just picked Flying because I've played it more recently, it has less votes, and it made me feel like I was flying. ![]() |

Just look up POMPOKO. ..........The way I view Mario in a raccoon suit has changed forever... And it gives me like ten thousand kabillionzillion more reasons to laugh at that guy. Sorry, Mario, you know I love you. |

| Senior Member | Rabbit Mario is my second choice, as it acts similarly to the Racoon suit, but without being nearly as awesome. |

I really liked how Mario was able to do more with it than he was the tail from SMB3. On the other hand, Mario with raccoon ears and a tail is a more memorable image. But I voted cape for gameplay reasons. |

Not because it was the best use of flight, but because I dig the new version of the invincibility music they bust out whenever you put the FC on. I like it even better than the Metal Cap music, believe it or not. In terms of actual usage, I still like Racoon Mario best. __________________ Boo--beware, he lives |

| Senior Member | The only one I haven't played as is Flying Mario, as I don't own SMG. However, I have played a demo with Bee Mario before, and it was kinda cool, but Tanooki Mario was way better. But I also like Wing Cap Mario too. The control was, and still is, pure genius. |
