Red face Who was/is the best Mario?

Captain Lou Albano
The first memorable voice of Mario, and in my opinion the best. Seriously, Mario's lost his Brooklyn touch in recent years. Albano was also awesome in the live-action segments of the Super Show. I vote him.

Walker Boone
Boone took over for Captain Lou after the Super Mario Bros. Super Show to do the voice of Mario in the Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 and the Super Mario World cartoon. He may not have been that phenomenal a Mario, but I do remember him better than most from my childhood.

Marc Graue
YA KNOW WHAT DEY SAY, ALL TOASTAS TOAST TOAST.

Bob Hoskins
I never watched the Super Mario Bros. Movie, but apparently it didn't do all that well. This doesn't say anything for Hoskins' performance, which sadly, I can't comment on.

Charles Martinet
The current voice of Mario. He's been great, but honestly, not all that memorable. Everybody recognizes his voice, since his breakthrough role in Super Mario 64, and I honestly can't picture a future Mario without Martinet. But that doesn't necesarilly make him the best voice.

Post and vote.

The whole Brooklyn thing was fazed out and retconned as of Yoshi's Island though. Whenever I hear Albano's Mario, I think of the slob who'd rather eat spagetti than save the day, and just can't picture his voice in the games. I vote Charles.

Until Martinet, Mario was portrayed as a typical serious, determined, brave hero (although one that enjoys pasta). But starting with SM64, although still a brave and heroic, Mario was shown to enjoy his adventure, having fun doing things like triple jumps and flying. It makes him a more interesting character, especially compared to other gaming protagonists, like Link or Liu Kang. And Martinet's cheerful delivery of the voice conveys that really well, I think. So, I voted for him.

Well, as serious as a pasta-obsessed plumber protecting fungus from a big turtle can be.

Because chugging unseasoned tomato sauce straight out of a tanker truck to counteract the fact that you've been eating dry pasta for weeks just reeks of seriousness.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Captain Lou.

Bob was probably the worst.

Charles really fleshed out Mario, although I did also really love Lou and Walker.

I'm not really that pleased with the Martinet voice, as I like video game characters that don't sound like they're trapped in a helium balloon. As for Bob... while the movie he played in was horrible, I think he had the best Mario voice.

^ The only game I didn't like Martinet's voice was Super Mario Galaxy... Mario's balls fell off in his latest installment.
