If peach is a princess, who's the king and queen?

How is it that a princess has absolute power in her kingdom? Shouldn't she be a queen? Where are her parents the queen and king!?? Has anyone ever thought about this before?

The comics and cartoons all showed the King as Princess Toadstool's father.

For that matter, is Peach really the same person as Princess Toadstool? That doesn't fly with me, and most other old fans of the series.

Peach is the same person as Toadstool. Her full name is Peach Toadstool. She goes by Princess Toadstool in Super Mario World.

No, Nintendo changed it after a few years. She was never "Peach" anything until Mario 64. Princess Toadstool was a redhead, too.

I guess Nintendo decided that Toadstool was kind of an unfitting name for a princess. That's my theory, at least.

Also, I guess she hasn't been made a queen yet or something.

Then why does Toadstool look exactly the same as Peach in Super Mario World and why is she blonde and not a redhead?

Well, Nintendo of America became less independent. They synchronized more with Japan, which preferred to portray Toadstool as a blonde bimbo. There, she always had the name "Peach". But in western marketing, she already had an established and multi-faceted personality. Most older fans of the series are likely to prefer that to the one-dimensional Barbie-doll called Peach.

Eh, I guess I'll pitch my theory, or at least one of them.

Peach is the sovereign ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, but is still only a princess because in order for her to be an actual queen, she must have a king. Until that happens, she is still just a princess. Uhh, have any of you seen Shrek? Think Lord Farquad.

There've been queens who haven't had a king. Whatever, it's just one of those things that Nintendo never thought through all the way. I guess another thing they've never thought through is why the heck they don't have any humans except for Peach, Mario, Wario, Waluigi, and Luigi.

It's a video game. You can just as easily have a Princess be a ruler just as much as you can have Crocodiles stealing bananas to anger a bunch of monkeys.

Also, There are other humans in the Mushroom Kingdom. They're just rare.
