Top Ten List #5: Most Kidnappable Characters

That's right, the one that skipped last week's one. Sorry, I was busy last week and kind of forgot. Anywho...

Week #5 (Week of 01-25-09)
Top Ten Most Kidnappable Characters

#10: Daisy

She may not be the most kidnapped princess in the Mario series (not by a long shot), but she did after all make her debut as the typical damsel in distress. In Super Mario Land, she played the role of kidnapee to the evil alien Tatanga, where she was eventually rescued by Mario.

#9: Subcon

The Subcon, natives of the Subcon, were captured and placed into a magical jar by the nightmare king Wart in Super Mario Bros. 2. Man, an entire kingdom crammed in a little jar? That couldn't have been fun. The Toads from Super Mario Bros. had it better off as individual bricks.

#8: Pauline

Before Peach or any of Mario's other floozies, there was Pauline, his original girlfriend from Brooklyn. Pauline played Fay Wray to Donkey Kong's... King Kong. And Mario was the guy in the aeroplane knocking the big ape off the skyscraper. Pauline would later reappear after a long hiatus in Mario vs Donkey Kong, where she repeated her role as giant monkey's creepy love interest.

#7: Yoshis

Yoshi has been Mario's pal since the very beginning, but for us our first encounter with the loveable dinosaur was in Super Mario World, where he and his friends had been captured and placed inside eggs. (What is it with villains stuffing native people inside of things?) Luckily for them, Mario was easily able to locate the all of the trapped Yoshis and release them from their amniotic prisons.

#6: Lumas

Lumas made their first appearance in Super Mario Galaxy, as the servants and "family" of Princess Rosalina. These fellows were born from loose matter in space and would mature into planets, comets or even stars. Several Lumas were captured by Bowser and, upon being freed by Mario, would transform into either some kind of star, or a new planet. TRANSFOOOOOOOOORM!

#5: Merfles

These cute fellows are denizens of the Shake Dimension, from Wario Land: Shake It! Once the evil Shake King usurped control of the land from Queen Merelda, most of the Merfles were captured and placed inside big, heavy-duty cages impervious to almost anything (except shaking, apparently). One loyal Merfle made it away, though, and with the help of Captain Syrup, found his way to Wario, to get help saving the kingdom.

#4: Mario

As seasoned a pro as Mario is, he's still gotten his butt kidnapped a few times. When Mario's away for whatever reason, it's usually been his brother who's had to come to his rescue, but to be fair, even Princess Peach has gotten him out of trouble.

#3: Luigi

Luigi's the more accident-prone of the two brothers, and kidnappings are included there. While there's been no real game centering around Luigi getting himself kidnapped (except maybe Super Princess Peach, but that was both brothers), Luigi has been kidnapped more than his fair share. And usually, it's Mario who's come to get him out of it. Butt in, butt out. Now that's brotherly love.

#2: Toads

Come on, these losers may be cute, but they've gotten themselves into trouble so many times now. Not only do they always fail at protecting the Princess from capture, but they also usually get themselves captured in the process. Why doesn't the Princess hire new guards? In fact, why ever let the Mario Brothers leave her side? She wouldn't get kidnapped so often if they were always around.

And that brings us, indubitably, to our number one...

#1: Peach

Who were you expecting? This Princess has been carried off with so many times that her legs can no longer work on their own. She's been captured so many times, I'd imagine Bowser doesn't even have fun with it anymore. Those poor Mario Bros. Called in to work so often and all they get is a kiss on the nose? What a high-maintenance bitch.

Stick around for next week's countdown, fellas.
