No. They may be located in the same dimension or whatever, but there's next to no overlap.

Miyamoto never cared for Donkey Kong. In fact, if Rare hadn't made DKC, Donkey Kong would probably just be the monkey that Mario curbstomped off the Pie Factory.

So.....yeah. That's why DK is getting nothing good as of late.

We need a new R-named second party like Retro to go in and revamp Donkey Kong.

Boo is pretty much right on the money, but the first two DK games, and the spin-offs prove they do overlap, if only a little. But it is significant.

I think that, but it may not be confirmed.

The DK games, according to Wikipedia, state that there exist two contradictory statements. One citation has Cranky reference to DK as his "grandson", the other calls him son. I think Nintendo chose to go with the "Grandpa" theory, I suppose making DK the regular DK, and Cranky being an original character. But the first DKC makes so many refrences to Cranky being the original DK, that I don't know for sure...

I do consider them different series, and the storyline ending at the end of Donkey Kong 64. All the rest of the games are in the Marioverse(Donkey Konga included). When a new and GOOD game comes out, maybe it could be brought back into canon. As for Diddy Kong Racing, it's argueable, though.

When I say there's next to no overlap, I mean it in the sense that, aside from DK and Diddy, we've never seen any DK characters or settings in a Mario game. Likewise with Mario characters in a DK game.

^What's arguable about DKR?

^ Technically, if Cranky does turn out to be the original DK, that makes three from the DK series to pop-up in Mario games. Those're all the connections I can make anyway.

^^^ So your logic is... if a DK game is good, it's in its own franchise, but if it sucks, it's part of the Marioverse?

I think I understand what you're saying, but you could word it a lot better.

^^ Actually, recently characters like Dixie, Tiny and Funky Kong (if not more characters) have been making appearances, though mainly as characters in sports or Mario Kart games.

^Fair enough. I was mostly talking main-sequence games, but I suppose the sports count.

Yeah... I mean, Mario's had crossovers with characters like Sonic and Pac-Man, but since Nintendo's picked up the Donkey Kong games from Rare it seems they've been trying to reintegrate them into the Mario series.

^ I wanna get ahod of that Pac-Man/Mario Kart. 'Course, that's a Japan-only arcade game. I won't be playing that anytime soon. =/
