As for Diddy Kong Racing, it IS a spinoff, but the storyline seems to not fit directly into the DKverse. I know some spinoffs of games can fit rather well, but this one...doesn't. | |

The N64 version is kind of an odd case, I grant you. |

I like to think that Mario hasn't seen the Kongs since DK Jr. kicked his butt so long ago. (With an exception being made for the Mario vs Donkey Kong series) The Donkey Kong Country series (and it's spin-offs) I don't consider to be part of Mario's world, despite my love of those games. And I like to think that Diddy's laid-back, tie-wearing uncle is DK Jr., and Cranky is the original, Mario-battling Donkey Kong. Last edited by Dr. Furball; 03-12-2009 at 12:21 PM. |

Right after DK Jr. beat Mario's ass? I must have missed that game. |

Right. And besides, even if any of that is true, they made too much contact with whatever canon thd series provides to just say they're seperate. Mega Man and Mario? Yeah. Seperate. Yoshi and Mario? Same universe, wether he branched off or not. Last edited by I REALLY HATE POKEMON!; 03-12-2009 at 08:45 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Sounds like they're of one 'gamingverse' to me. And I think someone earlier mentioned Yoshi; think of it as a late response, remixed into an example. DK and Yoshi have a very similar situation anyway. Speaking of Mario and Yoshi being of the same universe; wasn't there a Baby DK" featured in a Mario/Yoshi game on DS? Hm. I firmly believe DK to be integrated with Mario. |

Or they were taken to their new respective worlds seperately. In either case, perhaps they can travel to and from, at will, their worlds to Earth. What a nerdy theory I created. But at least possible, if not likely. |

I guess Donkey Kong's series could be in the same world as the Mushroom Kingdom, but there is barely any reference to Mario in Donkey game's games and DK has only shown up in "non-canon" games. |

But the seperate times mean nothing really. I believe Mario's hat was available for purchase in DKC2. Yoshi's Island DS, and the DK/Mario games for the handhelds should be enough (I'm sure they are canon) even without including spin-offs. I also recall SSB's character bios stating that DK and Mario have reconciled their differences, further cementing a relationship between the games. Besides, they could merely choose not to interact much as of late for reasons undetermined. |

Most of the DK games made since have been done by Paon. |

So, yeah, maybe DK does live in the same world as Mario, but it's not explained too much. I blame Miyamoto hating DK so much ![]() |

Yoshi and Wario are different things, because Yoshi is supposed to be in the same universe is (Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story both had Baby Bowser as the final boss!) However, I'm not quite sure of YIDS should count or not, considering it had Baby DK. Wario is somewhat less connected than Yoshi, but is still more connected than DK. Also DKC isn't part of the Mario universe, are you kidding me when have you seen a Kremling in a main Mario game (or a koopa in DKC) |

Hence Mario and DK share series. In the DK-only games it's outside the Marioverse, in Mario-only games it's outside the DKverse. It only makes sense, unless we accept the (crazy) premise that K. Rool could attack Mario or Bowser would directly attack DK. |
