Sequel looks pretty neat to me. Wonder what else will be new and different about it, although it's already cool in my book.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Will Be 'Really Challenging,' Shigeru Miyamoto Says

Quote:

Super Mario Galaxy wasn't too tough, but Nintendo hasn't been pulling their punches lately. New Super Mario Bros. Wii is reportedly quite difficult at points, and it looks like Super Mario Galaxy 2 isn't going to be any different.

Asked by Official Nintendo Magazine whether Nintendo is planning on implementing the Super Guide in the upcoming sequel, Shigeru Miyamoto said, "Well, as far as the challenge of Super Mario Galaxy 2 is concerned, I think it's going to be a really challenging game, but whether or not we are going to incorporate the Super Guide, I just cannot tell."

"In general, wherever and whenever appropriate, I think we will want to incorporate that kind of thing, but I cannot commit to anything specific right now."

The Super Guide was first introduced in New Super Mario Bros. Wii as a means to help players clear a level after dying multiple times. When activated, a computer-controlled Luigi proceeds to navigate the level for the benefit of the player. It's possible to take control of Luigi at any time, but the Super Guide becomes unavailable after that.

Miyamoto has previously hinted that Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be tougher than the first game, saying that it is being designed "with consideration that we believe that people who played through the first Mario Galaxy have become better players."

Nice to see that Nintendo is still making challenging games. Mario Galaxy 2 will be out in 2010.

Luigi mode, please.

A Mario sequel on the same console?

It's been a long time.

lol the pic

I'm on the fence. I liked SMG1, but it really made me nervous. Not too fond of the whole vertigo thing.

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Not sure if everyone has seen this, this was the first time I was able to stumble across it, the E3 2009 Trailer for Super Mario Galaxy 2!

Seems that one of the big things they are putting out there is that Yoshi is not only in this game, but is able to be ridden, which is always nice. I have to admit though, at first when I saw Yoshi and Mario actually hopping on his back I was like "Oh wow, cool, Yoshi is in Galaxy!" and then I cringed when i saw the Spiderman-esque Yoshi Tongue grapple, followed by blowing balloon Yoshi and though, "oh god, they are going to make Yoshi a gimmick!" Still, its nice to see him in the game, and I am still eager to play with him and see how he handles, I shouldn't judge a Yoshi by its color, Yoshi's have always had the ability to be gimmicky ever since the first game with Greens, Reds, Blues, and Yellows, so if they put in a little gimmick (not too much!) it won't be so bad.

At least one former power-up has been confirmed! Bee Mario is going to make a triumphant return, well that's good. Although Boos were shown in the trailer no idea if Boo Mario will be returning, hopefully they do bring it back, I still think it was a good power-up with a lot of potential. Of course Spring Mario, Fire Mario, and Ice Mario also aren't confirmed yet, so it'll be interesting to see which power-ups they bring back and which they decide to scrape, if any. There seems to be something that is either a power-up or possibly just an item, the drill thing. Although the video really didn't make it clear if this is the peek at a brand new Drill Mario, of if Mario can just pick the thing up and use it.

Other than that, and various worlds we may be seeing (since early trailers sometimes can have scrapped worlds in them in the end) is thankfully gameplay in general doesn't seem overly changed or complicated. Sure they added Yoshi and possibly holding items, but running around, stomping on things, and the mechanics of Super Mario Galaxy seem to stay constant. So I'm looking forward to learning more things about the game and its eventual release!

I hope Yoshi appears more than he did in NSMBW.

If Yoshi's powers are a gimmick to you, than are Mario's power-ups as well?

Well . . . I don't mind gimmicks, but I don't want them to be overly gimmiky where its not as much fun. I didn't think F.L.U.U.D. was that fun because it seemed more like a trial gimmick then a fun one.

I just mean I hope they don't go overboard.

The tongue grapple looks like it could be very fun if used right, also think about what it could do for his moveset in the next SSB game.

Well you should never design a character only so those moves can be used in a spin-off game, but I know what you mean.

^^^You mean...give him a grapple? 'Cause that's all it would change.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

It could also be used to grab items, or as a third arm if the dev team was feeling really genirous. Longer ranged grabs, throws, and melee attacks via item use the tongue grapple offers up alot of possiblities.
