EDIT: Well, and Junior's voice. Last edited by Gabriel; 11-07-2009 at 10:11 PM. Reason: I'm a forgetful hack. |

This is totally the best Mario game since Mario World~~ :D (Yoshi's Island was a great game, but it was a Yoshi game; not very authentic Mario) Everything about it is magnificent. Well, the music could've been better/more Mario-y in some parts, but overall, it's a very true-to-form original styled Mario. The characters are wicked (ie the Koopa Kids), the levels are beauitfully made and extremely fun, the bosses are actually somewhat challenging. Yaaaayyyyyyyyy. Also, Mario's voice got deeper, so he's nowhere near as obnoxious as before. I've got more levels to play. Bye. XD |

Epic Ladynerd Join Date: Jul 2000 Location: Forteresse de Valois Gender: Posts: 28,199 Thanks: 1,510 Thanked 1,719 Times in 993 Posts | Note: I'm going to spoiler some things that may or may not be really spoiling anything; mostly it's just details of the game, in case people don't want to know specifics of certain things, or like to find out interesting stuff on their own. ![]() I think it's a lot better than NSMB on the DS. Mario still controls in the new more floaty, less-immediate-momentum kind of way, which is really off-putting to me (I never got used to it; I'm still stuck on the old school handling), but I'm kind of figuring it out. The map design is a lot more creative and exciting, and the levels have so far been really interesting. We're up to the fourth world.I miss everything having faces (the bushes, the hills, the clouds), but that was originally part of the story that King Koopa had turned all the people of the Mushroom Kingdom into other things, I think. *The castles look amazing and have some of the best brooding music I've heard in a video game for a while. The castles have been heavily focused on vertical levels, where you just keep going up and up; it's very Yoshi's Island-esque. I assume they wanted to go for a "climbing to the top of the tower" kind of feel, but it's a disappointment compared to the old/original side-scrolling castle business. More than anything, by the time you've played through a couple of them, it's easy to be tired of it. Or maybe that's just me. XD *Coupled with the fact that the DS just didn't execute the 3D sprites well, so the visuals they were going for suffered (where they shine on the Wii), this has really surpassed it, in my opinion. It feels a lot like a love-child of SMB3 and Mario World, with some things taken from pretty much all the other games in one way or another. *There are a lot of secret areas, and some of them are actually really difficult to find. I assume some of them require a specific item to get to them, which is why I haven't been able to figure some of it out. The places you reach via climbing vines aren't cloud areas in this game, and that's really weird to me. They've all been, so far, multi-coloured "building block"-looking places. I would've rathered the SMB1 cloud bonus, but whatcha gonna do? *Yoshi makes really weird, gross squelchy sounds instead of standard/traditional Yoshi sounds when he eats things. You can lick the Hammer Bros.' hammers out of the air and spit them. It's cool. It's still nice to have a "real" Yoshi back (in that he's mostly just a dinosaur you ride around).*There's something of an over-abundance of items and, especially lives. Coins are never in short supply. If you spin over the little pinwheel flowers, each will spit out a coin. There's one level in World 2 that has a wind gust and about 20 coins just randomly fly across the screen in the wind. It's really awesome and interesting. The super-pile of items and lives is mostly to account for the multiplayer option, but honestly, there are challenging parts to the game and you can die pretty easily in some places. The Ghost House really was epic, though. I loved it to pieces. ![]() |
