Story? In MY Mario game? Miyamoto sez "no."

Miyamoto: Why I Spiked Mario Galaxy 2’s Story | GameLife | Wired.com

Also, Peach is apparently a glutton.

Sounds like Peach and GLaDOS would get along well.

Something about Mario lacking a story makes it oddly appealing to me. Not sure why.

Galaxy had a deep story? It was basically, "save the princess, also the galaxy", if I recall correctly. Though, there was Rosalina.

I have no choice: I will add my OWN story as I play! Each boss will have a monologue as you fight them. And Yoshi will be "cool".

Yeah, add a story so it can become like Sonic games! That'll be totally awesome!

Nope, he isn't. Metal Man is an avid supporter of new Sonic games, and a firm believer in Sega. Thus, he owns a fair amount of Sega.

But Ithought all the Mario games were just a daydream that the Links have to keep them from going nuts, what with all the horrible monsters and everything else they have to deal with.

Yes. The recent Sonic games are some of the most totally awesome games ever. They are surpassed only by Bubsy 3D for being some of the greatest games ever.

Mario games don't need a story, just fun.

The original games had far more backstory than most people realise.

And be All Emotional

The original Super Mario Bros. had King Koopa capturing the Princess and imprisoning the citizens of the Mushroom Kingdom in bricks using black magic.

Of course, you wouldn't get that if you just played the game without reading the instruction booklet, but it's still a story.

Even though the books and shows most likely don't count, I still like to believe that they were born in the Mushroom Kingdom, sent to the U.S., and then fell in a bathtub back home.

Not only Rosalina, but also Luigi and the Toad Brigade.

In my opinion, though, the Super Mario game with the deepest story (not that it's saying much) was Sunshine. Mario got framed, arrested, and put on community service. Then,
Spoiler Below
Peach suddenly finds out that she had apparently mothered Bowser's latest son (Although she actually didn't. Come to think of it, did anyone tell her?) Then Delfino Plaza gets flooded, and Mario finds out that Bowser was behind the whole thing and kicks his butt.

Actually, the Super Mario Land trilogy had an intriguing plot now that I think of it.
Wario hires Tatanga to kidnap Daisy. Mario goes to Sarasaland to save her. While Mario's doin' that, Wario sneaks into Mario's castle and takes over.
Mario comes back and kicks him out. Wario decides to steal Mario's golden statue of Peach (as part of his plan to make Mario jealous with his own, bigger castle), but Captain Syrup gets it first. Wario goes to steal it from her, only to have Mario steal it back, then Syrup's genie gives Wario a castle for his trouble.

That reminds me of a great mini-arc from Fireflower.
Which, in turn, reminds me of how much I miss Fireflower.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"
