Basically, post any memories you have (good or bad) that relate to the Mario series. I know SMBHQ had a section like this, but it hasn't been updated in centuries anyway. I'll start off, and maybe post some more if I think of them (I know I have a lot of 'em). Post yours, too. When I was younger, I had a best friend who lived down the cul-de-sac. I would always go over to his house to hang out and play on his SNES. He had Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World, which was our favorite game to play together. We were both pretty big Mario fans. So, at some point, we developed this game we played called "Mario Lines". We would take some chalk, and basically create a sidewalk Super Mario game. There was a starting point, and from there it'd be a line that led down the pavement, showing us where to go. There would be short little levels, fortresses, mountains and such. You'd come across chalk Goombas, Koopas and other enemies, which were defeated by hopping on them. Every now and then you'd find a Fire Flower, which would allow you "shoot fireballs" at enemies (usually accompanied by the sounds "PEW PEW"). If you got a Starman, you could just run dash through the enemies while humming the invincibility music. The game usually ended by infiltrating some sort of giant Bowser Death Star and defeating Bowser himself. We played this game probably a dozen different times. After he moved away the summer after 1st grade, I would still try and draw out some levels and play by myself, but it just wasn't the same without my 2P. |

I just played someone elese's save for a few minutes (around where Jinx is) and took it back to Blockbuster. Same thing for Earthbound, I just walked around in someone else's save automatically killing weak enemies in Onett. I sucked at RPGs, apparently. Ironically, however, I now love those two game most of all SNES RPGs. ...Now that I think back, I think I tried Chrono Trigger as well in a much similar fashion, I believe I was in the Cathedral. |

So me, her, and my other friend would often go there to swing on the swings. We graded one another's height on a scale of marioness. Barely moving was a 'Peach'. A decent swing was a 'Luigi'. A 'Bowser' was when you started going really high. None of us managed a 'Mario', though, because that meant swinging so high that the swing went upside-down and swung over the top of the set. Nerds yes! |

The basic rule was to stand on opposite sides of our yard and try to hit each other with one of those big rubber balls you get from large bins in stores like Wal-Mart. We took turns throwing the balls, and the first one to get hit three times was the loser. We included lots of items from the games, though, in order to spice the game up. I forget what most of them were, but, for example, I remember we had K. Rool's Crown, which meant that the ball would boomerang back to you after you threw it, giving you another chance to throw it. |

I took a picture of the TV screen displaying that picture of Mario, Luigi, and Princess Toadstool at the very end, but it didn't do it justice. |

SMB3 came out right around my brother's birthday, and we were basically the first people at school to get a copy of it. Our mom was cool enough to throw a Nintendo-themed party for him. I didn't really get a chance to play it much that day, since the older kids hogged that console a lot, but our neighbors brought over a tv and theirs and I played on that one a bit. Whenever my mom went to Sears or Woolworths, there was usually a display console setup there. It was pretty rare to see them back then, and it was the special 10-cart kind of system that would reboot every 5 minutes. I think it had SMB, Hogan's Alley, Punch Out!, and some other decent games on it. I usually played Hogan's Alley, since I didn't own it and the only other light game I'd seen at the time was Duck Hunt. |
