After his heart was crushed, Mario decided to quit the plumber business and opened up his own pizza shop. Luigi went on to marry the Princess Zelda, after saving her from the clutches of the evil Ganon, after Link had refused to take her calls. Bowser became the King of Evil after Luigi had once and for all defeated the evil Ganon, something Link had failed to do numerous times. Link and Peach went on to live a full and happy life.

Oddly enough neither kingdom beniffed from the political union, in part because of Princess Zelda's subltle manipulations, the bulk however was caused by the combined hissyfits of Ganon and Bowser.
