Are you crazy? I loved Mario Teaches Typing when I was a kid! It teached you how to type, and is prety fun. Plus, in Mario Teaches Typing 2, I think that was Charles Martinet, the current voice actor of Mario, made his debut. Don't quote me on that, but I think it may be true.

Football stadiums, rosters, players, and tactics evolve and change;

Mario doesn't. (Well, not at the same pace, at least.)

Also, the goal of Football games is to emulate football... Mario can't escape criticism by going 'But it's emulating a real world event!'

That said, Mario Party isn't the worst. Mario's Time Machine and Mario's Hotel are easily the worst.

Each Mario Party game has different boards, different mini-games, and usually a couple of new playable characters.

I got the Chef title today

No one praises Madden games just for being the same. I've seen many jokes about developers changing the box cover and then finishing production. The games, I assume, are good and thus get praise.

Also, many mini-games are usually the same ideas, just with a different skin. The characters have no real differences from each other, excluding appearance and voice.

I found the Mario Parties after 3 to be pretty lame.

Granted. Personally, I don't like the Madden series since what I dub "the no late hit" era. I.E: the time where in Madden games you can't late hit someone (and get a penalty). Late hitting someone was great for venting frustrations.

But there's got to be a reason EA bought the sole rights to produce NFL Games... I think ESPN 2K3 (I think... it's the one with T.O on the cover) was better than the Madden at the time and EA got scared. Makes you wonder about the Madden series in general after that...

The mini-games? Granted, but you have to run out of unique ideas sometime... :\

The characters? Considering there's usually fights on who gets the Car or the Jockey or (insert favorite token) in Monopoly... this isn't surprising, especially if they add more "tokens".
Plus, in MP7, you're wrong. There are special items that only certain characters can use (Blue Orbs).

Obviously they wanted money. You're going to get a lot from producing NFL games.

Didn't know about the Blue Orbs. Was that just in 7, or something?

side question: why did they drop 3's Duel Mode and 5's Car Battling? I thought those were fun. It'd be nice to see them return with new additions and such.

No surprise they wanted money and no surprise they'll get a lot from producing NFL games, but to get rid of their competition completely? Sounds... monopolistic to me. Maybe even desperate. I don't like it...... but what am I going to do?

Yeah. Just in 7... but note I've never played the handheld MPs.

... Honestly, that's what I'd like to know. 3's Duel mode was easily (IMO) the best of all MP's games (including the main board games), and MP5's Car Battling and the card board game were great fun! And ditto on them returning! >:[

... Clearly, you've never played MP5. All car battles (in MP5) are 1-on-1.

I thought the car-battling in MP5 was pretty cool, but overall sluggish and unbalanced. Could've been done better.

I have been thinking about this, especially since I've been watching Mario Party Videos recently...

I never played Mario Party 6 or 7, but they both had a gimmicky ideas (6 had the Day Night Mechanic, and 7 has 8-player mode), but for the most part, 4 through 7 were all find the star with 20 coins and get it, avoid Bowser in some form or another, and they had the same old same old feel.

8 appears to have remedied this to a point, still I'm not too sure.

My friends have mentioned the game "Hotel Mario" sometimes... It was for the CD-I, I think.

I'm almost positive it was the NFL that made the initial offer (bidding contest, obviously), and 2K and the others just lost out in that.

As far as the worst Mario game, I'm going to have to go with the Party series. I've never been a fan of games (video or otherwise) that rely mostly on luck. The Monopoly boards help with that a little, but it's still entirely possible to lose based on a few bad rolls.

If someone who's never played a Mario Party game before picked up Mario Party 8 and started to play it, they'd probably think it was freakin' shweet, especially if they were already a Mario fan in general.

No, I just hate the concept and execution. Nothing to do with getting worse over time, even the graphics were done in a mediocre fashion at the launch of the series. If it gives you any insight, I also rather dislike Warioware, albeit for slightly different reasons.
