Its gameplay is tight and intuitive, its music is divine, its story is charming, and its unique graphic style is a beautiful sight to behold. Overflowing with variety, challenges, puzzles, surprises, and unforgettable characters, Yoshi's Island represents the zenith of Super NES achievement. From his debut in 1991's Super Mario World, Yoshi was insanely popular, and this led Nintendo to cash in with games like Yoshi, Yoshi's Cookie, and Yoshi's Safari. It was with the masterpiece that was Yoshi's Island, however, that the lovable dino really came into his own. The game introduced several aspects of Yoshi's character by which he is identified today, including his Flutter Jump, his Ground Pound, and his ability to convert enemies into eggs for throwing. The game also saw the triumphant return of Shy Guys (absent from the Mario universe since SMB 2), and this was fitting in that the little masked monsters helped to set Yoshi's Island apart from Mario's own platform games; whereas Mario routinely faced off against hordes of Goombas and Koopa Troopas, Shy Guy had become Yoshi's own nemesis. Yoshi's Island also introduced (for better or worse) Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, and Baby Bowser. Yoshi's Island was such a rip-roaring success that it inspired several semi-sequels, including Yoshi's Story, Yoshi Topsy-Turvy, Yoshi Touch & Go, and Yoshi's Island DS. Yoshi's Island was ported to the Game Boy Advance in 2002. Last edited by Metal Mario; 12-15-2009 at 11:48 PM. |

There were a few levels that I loved so much, and would play over and over again. They often included those awesome fat Shy Guys. __________________ /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\ WON’T YOU BECOME A MAGICAL GIRL? |
