Okay, this was our final installment of the qualifying rounds, and it was a fittingly epic brawl. It wasn't clear who was going to win until the very last second.

Stage: Pokemon Stadium (Melee)

Mario and Peach dance around each other, hitting each other with weak attacks until Mario punches a flaming Soccer Ball into Peach's face. Mario then hefts a Cracker Launcher and hits Peach with two or three shots. Peach uses the spores regurgitated by her portable Mushroom Retainer to activate a delayed-reaction Smart Bomb lying in the center of the stage, then snatches up a Dragoon piece. She throws the Smart Bomb off the stage before it can explode, then collects the other two Dragoon pieces. She zeroes in on Mario and swoops down like a wrathful albatross, but Mario rolls out of the way. As Peach returns from the sky, Mario smashes her with a headbutt, then an A+Forward Smash Attack. A Smash Ball appears and Mario gets it. He unleashes his barrage of fiery fury in midair, but the attack passes harmlessly over Peach's head. Peach throws a Beam Sword at Mario, then releases Wobuffet from a Pokeball. Then Mario takes up a Pokeball of his own and beans Peach upside the head with it, releasing Bellossom and KO'ing Peach. (Peach -1)

Mario and Peach duel furiously with Beam Swords, dancing back and forth across the stage as each takes their licks. Finally Peach manages to knock Mario into an exploding Barrel, KO'ing him. (Mario -1)

Another Smash Ball appears and Mario gets it. This time his Final Smash hits Peach dead-on, pushing her right off the left side of the screen. (Peach -2)

Exactly one full life ahead of Peach now, Mario grabs a Ray Gun and starts shooting. He uses his Cape to propel a rolling Crate into Peach, then a nearby Blast Box explodes all over him. Then Peach releases Barbara from an Assist Trophy and Metagross from a Pokeball, but neither one does any harm to Mario. Yet another Smash Ball appears, but this time Peach gets it, putting Mario to sleep. The Princess hits the slumbering Mario with an A+Forward attack, knocking him off the left side of the stage, but the plumber recovers with his Super Jump Punch, then sets about scarfing down some of the restorative peaches strewn about the stage. Peach knocks him around with a continuous series of A Buitton attacks, then releases the rarely-occurring Deoxys from a Pokeball. It fires its deadly beam, but Mario is nowhere near it. Then Peach breaks open another Smash Ball and tranquilizes Mario again. She sneaks up on him and KO's him with a Smash Attack. (Mario -2)

Thanks to the peaches generated by her Final Smash, the Princess' damage is now down to just 21%. This could still go either way (like a bisexual!). And the two combatants seem aware of the high stakes for which they're playing. Indeed they lay into each other with a vengeance, battering each other back and forth across the stage with punches, kicks, spin attacks, Paper Fans, Ray Guns, and Fire Flowers, giving and taking like Peter and the Giant Chicken on Family Guy. Eventually another Smash Ball appears and Mario gets it. He nails Peach with his Final Smash, shoving her perilously far to the left, but not quite into KO territory. Indeed Peach recovers, and Mario releases the Excite Bike dudes from an Assist Trophy. Peach manages to remain above the fray, however, and propels Mario off the right side of the stage while she's at it. Mario recovers; however, Peach quickly arms herself with a Super Scope, charges it up, and nails the plumber with a fully-powered blast, at last KOing him.

WINNER: PRINCESS TOADSTOOL

Well, it was a knock-down, drag-out fight, but Princess Toadstool emerged triumphant in the end, and will now move on to the semi-finals with Yoshi, Wario, and Donkey Kong!
