That's right, sports fans, it's come time for our second exciting "Off the Hook" match. For this event we permit the Mario characters some much deserved time off, and instead set up a match between two or more non-Mario characters. Our match-up this time is................

Sonic VS Snake

VS

That's right, folks! It's time for the duel of the third-party guest stars! When Master Hand made the controversial decision last year to open up the Super Smash Bros. celebrity invitational to non-Nintendo characters, he made a couple of good picks with Sonic the Hedgehog and Solid Snake. They and others like them have long been itching to test their mettle in the ring against Nintendo's stable of famed icons. But which of these two travelers from foreign lands would win when pitted against each other? Will Sonic's inner mongoose devour Snake, or will Snake be having stuffed hedgehog for lunch?

All right, here's how our epic duel of the outsiders went:

The stage, selected randomly, is Smashville, inspired by Animal Crossing.

Snake opens up right away with a shot from his rocket launcher, but Sonic curls up into a ball and spins off the spot, deflecting the rocket as he plows right through it and slams into Snake with the force of a Buick, knocking him backwards off the right side of the small stage. Snake attempts a recovery with his hovering Cypher, but Sonic guards the edge and punches him in the face when he gets close, knocking him back again. Snake tries a second time for recovery, and Sonic does it to him a second time! Finally, on the third attempt, Snake does make it back to the stage. He picks up a Crate and brains Sonic with it. Two Beam Swords emerge from the Crate, and both combatants grab one. They duel for a few moments, dodging each other's furious jabs and thrusts. Then Snake throws his Sword at Sonic and frees Snorlax from a Pokeball. Sonic evades the incoming Pokemon, however, and snatches up a Dragoon piece. Then he steps on one of Snake's mines, and Snake grabs a Dragoon piece of his own. Then Snake goes after Sonic with a Beam Sword while Sonic grabs the third Dragoon piece to appear. Snake throws his Beam Sword at Sonic again, however, knocking free one of the hedgehog's Dragoon pieces. Then he releases Wobuffet from a Pokeball and, because Snake hates Wobuffet just as much as we all do, he shoots the Pokemon in the head with a rocket. A second later, Snake tries to detonate a bomb beneath Sonic's feet, but the blue blur is too quick for Snake and escapes unscathed (by the time Snake growls "Now!", Sonic is already well out of the way). Sonic then tries his Homing Attack against Snake, but Snake repels him with a Smash Attack, sending him flying off the right side of the stage. Sonic recovers, but Snake opens an Assist Trophy to reveal Knuckle Joe. In an instant, Sonic finds himself in a very dangerous position; trapped between Knuckle Joe and a Blast Box. Predictably, the Blast Box goes up in flames, and so does Sonic. (Sonic -1)

Snake claims the Dragoon piece Sonic drops, then prepares to KO Sonic with the assembled dreadnought. Snake's air raid is an utter failure, however, as the Dragoon goes sailing harmlessly over Sonic's bristly head.

Sonic breaks open a Metal Box to become Metal Sonic, then meets the descending Snake with a Smash Attack. Snake recovers and fires a rocket at Sonic. Sonic pulls the same maneuver he did at the very beginning of the match, plowing past the missile and spinning into Snake. And, as he did before, he guards the edge, frustrating Snake's attempts to get back, and this time it ultimately results in Snake falling to his doom. SNAAAAAAAAKE!!! (Snake -1)

Sonic grows up big and strong with a Super Mushroom, but that doesn't stop a re-entering Snake from grabbing him from behind and chloroforming him. Then Sonic gets up and spins into a Thunderbolt, shrinking Snake. Snake manages to stay out of Sonic's way until he returns to normal size, then kicks Sonic in the face a couple of times and throws a Capsule at him. Snake drops a mine, but Sonic knocks Snake into the explosive instead. Then Snake kicks Sonic off the right side of the stage and gives the hedgehog a taste of his own medicine, guarding the edge and repelling Sonic twice before he's able to get back. Finally, after softening Sonic up with some punches and rockets, Snake KO's him with a Bumper to the face. (Sonic -2)

Sonic comes back and hits Snake with a Capsule, out of which pops a Smash Ball. Snake breaks open the Smash Ball by throwing a Capsule at it. Sonic throws a Smart Bomb in an attempt to prevent Snake from activating his Final Smash, but Snake is already on his way, and the only one who gets charbroiled to tender, juicy perfection by the Smart Bomb's explosion is Sonic. After surviving that, Sonic does his best to weather Snake's FS, and he does do an admirable job of dodging the incoming grenades.

Not admirable enough, though, as it turns out.

WINNER: SNAKE

As you sports fans probably remember, the original Super Smash Bros. for N64 featured four Mario characters amongst the playable roster, and those four characters were Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Donkey Kong. Now it's time for them to battle it out in Brawl for the coveted and illustrious title of "Playable Mario character from the original SSB who kicks the most ass in Brawl"!

Ugh, this whole place is so dead! All of VGF is dead! Every time I log on, all I see is rows and rows of stupid shield icons! "Last new post: 6/12/01"! I can only do so much, people! It does no good for me to bring the cake if you're not going to eat it!

Okay, well, since this place is so dead, I guess I might as well go ahead and post the summary for this match. Nothing else is happening, that's for sure.

The stage, selected randomly, is Smashville once again.

Predictably the match starts out chaotically, with everyone brawling ferociously and driving each other's damage up on the left side of the stage. Mario releases Weavile from a Pokeball and it zips back and forth across the small stage, stunning and continuously hitting Luigi, Yoshi, and DK. After Weavile vanishes, DK charges up his Giant Punch while Mario begins an assault with a Fire Flower. Yoshi opens an Assist Trophy to reveal the guitar-playing Barbara, and her sound waves KO Donkey Kong. (DK -1)

A Smash Ball appears and Luigi gets it. He encompasses everybody within the Negative Zone, and KO's Yoshi with a Smash Attack. (Yoshi -1)

After the Negative Zone has dissipated, Donkey Kong KO's Luigi with a Pokeball upside the head. (Luigi -1)

Then Torchic comes out of the Pokeball and KO's Mario! (Mario -1)

DK scarfs down a plate of Curry and rushes to the left side of the stage to give Yoshi and Luigi the business. Inexplicably, the big ape falls right off the edge of the stage and fails to save himself. (DK -2)

After a brief but vicious round of fisticuffs in the center of the stage, a Smash Ball appears and Yoshi gets it. He activates his Final Smash and KO's Luigi, even as somebody's falling Snorlax puts DK out of the game for keeps. (Luigi -2, DK -3)

After returning to normal, Yoshi flings a couple of eggs at Luigi, then lowers his considerable damage with a Maxim Tomato. Mario throws a Capsule at Luigi, and Luigi kicks Mario. Then Mario freshens up with a Maxim Tomato of his own. Luigi straps on a Bunny Hood and headbutts Yoshi. Another Smash Ball appears and Mario gets it, unleashing a devastating wall of flame that pushes Luigi off the screen and out of the game. (Luigi -3)

Now it's between Mario and Yoshi, each of whom have two lives and high damage. Yoshi releases Meowth from a Pokeball, then hefts a Cracker Launcher and hits Mario with a couple of shots. A Poison Mushroom sneaks up behind the green dino, however, and Mario rushes in to headbutt him into oblivion. (Yoshi -2)

Re-entering, Yoshi slaps Mario off the right side of the stage with his tail. Mario recovers with a Super Jump Punch, which has the added effect of knocking Yoshi back. Mario swats Yoshi a couple of times with a Beam Sword. Then Yoshi opens an Assist Trophy and out pops big gay Tingle, who sends a lot of harmless red balloons flying everywhere. Then Mario gets another Smash Ball and uses his fiery fury to KO Yoshi for the final time.

WINNER: MARIO
