Mario Bros. (Arcade, 1983)

Notable for serving as the debut of both Luigi and Koopa Troopa (as well as introducing pipes, coins, and POW Blocks to Mario's world), Mario Bros. is an all-time classic. The gameplay - simplistic yet increasingly hectic - involves Mario and Luigi jumping around an unending series of sewer-like stages, exterminating pests like Koopa Troopas (then called Shellcreepers), Sidesteppers, and Fighter Flies by bumping the platforms beneath their feet to flip them over, then jumping up to kick the stunned creatures away.

All in all, Mario Bros. has been released more than twenty times across a dozen consoles. Enhanced, updated versions have been included in Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario All-Stars, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, and the Super Mario Advance games. Special stages inspired by Mario Bros. appear in WarioWare, Inc: Mega Microgame$, Mario Power Tennis and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

It's super-addicting, I know that. I've probably spent $50 worth of quarters on this game. I think I've gotten up to Level 31 before.

Never played arcade version, only handheld. But it's addicting.

Mario Bros. is awesome. I own a ton of different versions of it, but I'm still compelled by forces beyond my control to play the arcade game every time I see it somewhere.
