Game of the Week #15

Luigi's Mansion (GCN, 2001)

In honor of Halloween week, we're shining the spotlight on Luigi's Mansion, in which the green-clad plumber must investigate the spooky rooms and shadowy corridors of a haunted manor in his quest to rescue Mario from the cold clutches of a gaggle of vengeful Boos. The first Mario game for the GameCube, and the first game in which Luigi was given the lead role (if you don't count Mario Is Missing!), Luigi's Mansion is simplistic and relatively brief, but fun, and, from what I hear, it's head-and-shoulders above the new Ghostbusters game. Vacuuming up the seemingly endless spooks can get repetitive after a while, but, as I said, the game doesn't go on long enough for the action to become truly tiresome. And it looks good too, which never hurts.

Elements of Luigi's Mansion have gone on to appear in Mario Power Tennis and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The game is also notable for providing the debuts of King Boo and Professor E. Gadd, both of whom have gone on to become regularly recurring characters in the Mario series.

It's good for Halloween, I suppose.

You know what...

I can't even remember if I've beaten this or not. I know my brother and sister have. I'll have to check my file sometime.

I love this game. I beat the game, but not with all the money, just all the ghosts.
