Hmm, I always assumed they were provinces in Mushroom Kingdom, but I suppose you could be right. Did they ever explain it? I mean that's a pretty big detail, they must mention it somewhere . . .

Yeah, Rosalina's mom was an insensitive jerk who just went ahead and died without even caring for the girl she was rearing. God, what a jerkwad.

^^^^ She left her dad and big brother behind. Also, now that I'm thinking about it, there is a castle in the background of her home in the storybook, so perhaps she really was a princess.

^^ I don't think they ever really explained it, or very well at least. The original Super Mario Bros. games never really got too in-depth with the storyline. All we knew is that they were just a bunch of kings.

I do hope Rosalina makes it into Mario Galaxy 2, it would be a pity for them to just neglect the character.

Funny though, wouldn't it be interesting if in Mario Galaxy 2, instead of Bowser kidnapping Peach, Bowser instead decides to kidnap Rosalina? He could turn her house into a twisted final level of the game, and it could set up some funny scenes with a jealous Peach (since its always her who gets kidnapped . . . now Rosalina is moving in on her turf?! But it would be an awkward jealousy!)

Although that would sort of reduce Rosalina to the same status as any other female in the Mario series as just a damsel in distress . . . although I guess she's already there since last game she was supposed be all goddess-like, and yet was powerless to collect the power stars herself.

That would certainly be interesting, but as you said yourself, it'd be nice if the one female character that isn't a damsel in distress would STAY that way. *shrug*
