(DS, 2006) ![]() In honor of this week's release of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, we're shining the spotlight on its DS predecessor. Mario's first side-scrolling platform adventure since 1992's Super Mario Land 2, New SMB had a lot to live up to. Mario fans had been waiting fourteen years for this game, after all, and expectations were high. Well, once again, Nintendo and Mario didn't disappoint. While us old fogies will likely always favor the classics like Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World, New SMB is a solid, enjoyable, and replayable game that delivers vintage Mario (running and jumping, numerous secrets, lots of exploration) seasoned with some great new stuff (cutting-edge graphics and sound, awesome new power-ups like the Mega Mushroom and Blue Shell). New SMB is the second best-selling game for the DS, and the fourth best-selling non-bundled video game of all time. Last edited by Metal Mario; 12-16-2009 at 12:00 AM. |
