He was Mario's brother. Which is why they called the game Mario Bros. The same goes for Toad in the later Mario games. Up until Paper Mario, there was one specific character named Toad, and all the others of his race were just Mushroom People. But, beginning with Paper Mario, Nintendo established the practice of referring to all of Princess Toadstool's subjects as Toads. I'm old-school, so I don't abide by this, just as I still call Princess Toadstool by her original name. Consequently, Toad is the loyal Mushroom Retainer with the red spots and blue vest who shows up in SMB 2, SMRPG, and the sports, Kart, and Party titles. The unnamed Mushroom People in games like SMB, SM 64, and Luigi's Mansion are not Toad. They're just various scattered citizens of the Mushroom Kingdom. And the two playable Mushroom People in New SMB Wii aren't Toad either.

Technically Peach was her original name, she was always known as Peach in Japan, it just didn't catch on in the U.S. until Mario 64.

But thanks for your input Metal Mario, I basically wanted to say the same thing about How Mario and Luigi being pallet swaps are in fact different then the new yellow and blue "Toads" in my opinion, but couldn't really find the right words to do so.

Some people Mario terminology was for a long time defined by the Cartoon, why the movie never uses the word Bowser.

I like her. Not the concept of her, just her as a character. Especially her voice.

As someone who's a big fan of the Wario Land games, I've gotta say that if they were gonna put Wario into the game, he'd have to play completely different from the others.
He'd have to have a shoulder charge attack, for one. More traction on his feet, a life bar of some sort, maybe.
It'd be like putting Link, sword and all, in the game, but having him play the same as the Mario Bros. Wario's style of platforming just doesn't suit that of Super Mario Bros.

And, as far as I'm concerned, Waluigi isn't even canon.

Wario and Waluigi don't work. Wario punches and does huge ground-pounds, and Waluigi, well...plays sports, if anything.

They could draw from how you played him in SM64DS

I don't know why Wario and Waluigi can't play like the Toads. Sure, their sizes are radically different than that of Mario and Luigi, but that doesn't really mean anything.

The Mario universe doesn't have a canon.

I'm sick of Waluigi hate, I love him and want to see him finally appear in a Legit game.

Toadette awa's introduced in Mario Kart Double Dash, but that didn't keep her out of TTYD.

^^ You can't have it both ways (being pedantic about "one real" Toad, and Princess Toadstool vs. Peach as a name, then declare there's no canon to speak of).

Waluigi is the worst character design the franchise has made repeated use of. He just doesn't fit.

BTW:

These are the Toad/s you save from each castle in SMB1. The manual clearly states that they are several different people. It also makes no mention of Luigi, or differentiation between Player 1 and Player 2 as different people. *shrug*

I don't see what one has to do with the other.

They weren't called Toads then, though. The first appearance of a character called Toad was SMB 2.

What are you talking about, Waluigi fits with Wario perfectly, they need to take advantage of him.

In english, at least, Toad used to be an actual character, where as the species in general were simply refered to as the mushroom people. It wasn't until the N64 era that they started mixing the meaning of the two. Given the timeframe of when the confusion began, I suspect that maybe there was never such a distinction in Japan, since it started right around when Nintendo started unifying their storys and much of what had become accepted in NA got overwritten.

Even recently, Toadette was stated to be "the" Toad's sister, so there's still some confusion.

I fail to see how Waluigi's design is any different, weird, or non-mario from the design of the Koopalings in a world where you eat mushrooms.

This is the problem with Nintendo, boring generic crap. I agree, two Toads is just stupid. Not that I actually like Waluigi, but he and Wario would've been much better in the long run. Not to mention the stupidity of no online co-op. That was a MAJOR oversight...

Didn't they say there was no online because of the Wii's power or something? Whatever the reason, it is pretty lame.

...I wouldn't mind more than 4 characters, but I guess there's no more than those 4. Oh well, I like the color blue.
