Thumbs up

I'd be all in favor of seeing a darker, scarier Luigi's Mansion. I don't mean they should go all Conker's Bad Fur Day on it (which they wouldn't anyway, of course). No blood, no gore; it should remain E-rated. But a "hard" E, if you get my meaning. That would be sweet.

Why not just make it an E 10 game?

Not a bad list also another way to do a Mario FPS would be a paintball based spinnoff.

^As long as the characters didn't use weapons that resembled actual guns.

Mario can't use a gun.

I never thought SML was that weird, considering it came after SMB2, when no one knew what crazy turn the Mario series would take next.

Sure he could, given Yoshis' Safarei and all. Granted he's most definatly a better shot with hand thrown fire/ice balls, hmm now that I think of it he'd be damn good with a granade.

Now SHOULD he use firearms is the question, I'd say outside of rare exeptions of the super scope, FLUDD, or a paintball gun no. Not only does he not need them they just don't fit his personality.

Granted, these aren't from games, but still.

Super Mario Land was a launch title for the Game Boy starring Mario as he travelled through the new kingdom of Sarasaland, to rescue Princess Daisy from the evil alien Tatanga. This is probably due to the fact that Gunpei Yokoi was the producer of this game, rather than Miyamoto.

The game featured poor graphics (especially the DOS version), bland gameplay, and... ugh, EDUCATIONAL VALUE. Avoid it at all costs.

Great lists, Val!!!!

Going back a day... I would really enjoy seeing a new version of the ShyGuy's Toy Box in another game some day. With LOTS of ShyGuys, of course!!!

And, I detest pulling up turnips. Bah!!!

The Twelfth Day of Christmas:
Top 10 Cancelled Games

In a perfect world, every game would enter production and emerge a brand new, clean product. However, sometimes things just don't work out the way they're supposed to. Games occasionally get cancelled for one reason or another, leaving us only to wonder what could have been. What were some of the most interesting cancelled Mario games? Let's take a look.

10. Mario Paint 64

Remember Mario Paint, the fun little art studio game for the SNES? Mario Paint 64 was an intended sequel to that game, scheduled to be released for the Nintendo 64DD (Nintendo 64 Disk Drive), a peripheral which could be attached to the Nintendo 64 to play games in disc format. However, the N64DD bombed, and Mario Paint 64 was never completed.

9. Donkey Kong Coconut Crackers

Donkey Kong Coconut Crackers was a puzzle game that was going to be released for the Game Boy Advance, developed by Rare. The idea of the game was to clear the board by creating different colored rectangles. When Rare was bought out by Microsoft in 2002, though, they lost the rights to create new games featuring Nintendo's character Donkey Kong. The game was eventually reworked into a new title, It's Mr. Pants, and released in 2004.

8. VB Mario Land

A cancelled game for the commercial failure known as the Virtual Boy, VB Mario Land was originally going to be a 2D platforming game with some 3D elements, such as the ability to move back and forth between the foreground and the background. Not much was revealed about the game, although it featured Mario as the hero and Wario as a villain. The game was never completed, though some elements may have been implemented in the Virtual Boy game Mario Clash.

7. Super Mario RPG 2

Intended to be the sequel to Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, to be released for the Nintendo 64DD. The game was originally worked on by both Square and Nintendo. However, when the two companies split, it became illegal for Nintendo to release a direct sequel to SMRPG without Square's consent. So, the game was altered by both Nintendo and Intelligent Systems and due to the failure of the N64DD was released in cartridge form for the N64, known outside Japan as Paper Mario.

6. Donkey Kong no Ongaku Asobi

Donkey Kong no Ongaku Asobi (translatable as "Donkey Kong's Fun with Music") was a game that was set to be released for the NES in 1983. It was to follow the steps of Donkey Kong Jr. Math and serve as an edutainment game, this time focusing on music. It featured the characters of Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Mario and Pauline and two modes: Music Quiz and Donkey Band. The game was never released, however.

5. Diddy Kong Pilot

Yet another cancelled Donkey Kong game, this one again being due to Rare's shift to Microsoft. The game was intended to be a pseudo-sequel to Diddy Kong Racing, and featured multiple members of the Kong family (and some foes) as playable racers. The game was reworked into Banjo-Pilot after Rare was sold to Microsoft, and released in 2005 for the Game Boy Advance.

4. Super Mario's Wacky Worlds

Super Mario's Wacky Worlds was going to be a sequel to Super Mario World developed by NovaLogic and published by Philips Media for the CD-i system. The game was going to be a typical Mario platformer, featuring levels such as ancient Greek temples and Egyptian pyramids, haunted castles and ships, icebergs, swamps, and cities. Nintendo had given the developers the okay to work on this game, however, due to the poor sales of the CD-i it had to be cancelled. A pre-alpha version of the game can be found on the internet and played on an emulator, albeit illegally.

3. Yoshi Demo

Yoshi Demo is a techn demo which appears to be a Game Boy Advance port of Yoshi's Story. It is unknown if Nintendo ever planned on releasing this as a full game, and little outside the video is known about it. The demo features a YS-like level in which you play as Yoshi. Enemies such as Shy Guys, Bob-Ombs and Toadies are present. The demo also seemed to have a few new features not found in Yoshi's Story. Pretty weird.

2. Super Mario 128

Super Mario 128 wasn't technically a game on it's own, but a series of projects by Nintendo do develop a sequel to Super Mario 64. A famous demo of the project featured 128 Mario son screen at once. The project experimented with a variety of new ideas and technology to use in new games. Some was eventually used in games like Super Mario Galaxy and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. However, the project has since ended, and Shigeru Miyamoto has let us know what Super Mario 128 up being. Nope, not Super Mario Sunshine or Super Mario Galaxy... but Pikmin. There you have it.

1. Donkey Kong Racing

A sequel to Diddy Kong Racing that was to be developed for the GameCube, Donkey Kong Racing was set to have characters like Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Tiny Kong, Kiddy Kong, and even Taj the Genie, in a racing game that took place aboard rideable creatures such as Rambi the Rhinoceros and Enguarde the Swordfish. The game did indeed look very cool... but as we all know, Rare was sold to Microsoft in 2002. Unlike Diddy Kong Pilot and Donkey Kong Coconut Crackers, though, Donkey Kong Racing has never been officially cancelled. It's just been "unofficially cancelled" this whole time, due to the fact that it's been so long and that it was to be developed for a now-obsolete system. Oh well...

Well, that's all. It was hard for me to keep up being the procrastinator that I am, but I had fun writing these, and I hope you enjoyed reading them. Have a Merry Christmas, and be sure to get lots of Mario games. Ciao!

Another intresting list, Rare sure seemed dead set on equaling if not surpassing Mario Kart. Ah well can't blame them for trying.

And so the list comes to an end. What fun times we had.

Also, I wouldn't worry about your procrastination problem, because you're not alone. Trust me.
