I just assumed everyone was in their twenties. I mean, it's not like the graphics up until now could support something as radical as wrinkles.

According to this strategy guide, Zelda is around 20 in TP.
Also, in the Writer's Bible for "the Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3" TV series, Princess Toadstool is stated to be 17.

Anyway, why can't a man in his late 20s-early 30s have a thing for a woman in her 20s?

I'm alot more of a Zelda/Link supporter than I am a Mario/Peach supporter, though I do think that both of the pairs fit.

Not what I'd call the most credible of sources.

It's almost like Nintendo doesn't care about having a consistent story.

He wasn't dropped off, he was just dropped. Kamek tried to steal the babies from The Stork while he was en route to Mario's Home, which I believe is in Brooklyn. At the end of Yoshi's Story, the babies get dropped off on the Mario parents' doorstep.

So either Yoshi's Island takes place in an alternate universe or the stork was able to traverse worlds in order to get from the Mushroom Kingdom to Earth.

I didn't know they had mushroom houses in Brooklyn.

The houses must be penises, representing their (eventual) sexual urges for Princesses.

^Me, for example. You know that picture of me in a fighter jet? The flight mask is covering it.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

This is precisely why it's a foolish and futile effort to force the Mario series into any sort of coherent continuity or canon.

True, but much like Zelda it doesn't help that Nintendo is often dropping scraps of info that hit at an onve-rarching continuity.

I think a good idea is to make a somewhat more mature, separate Mario RPG series and grant it a completely unique continuity and story (kinda like M&L but with a more involved storyline). I think it'd attract new and old Mario followers alike, RPG buffs and the like.

Well, at that point, the only hook you have for those games is "Hey, the main character is Mario, maybe." Nintendo might as well create a new RPG with brand new characters, free of the cruft that's built up over the past thirty years.
