This just occurred to me

Okay, so we all know Mario ain't no teenager, right? I mean, not with that glorious mustache. Personally, I'd place him in his early thirties, although late twenties would work too.

Now, in order for Mario to not be a sick, disgusting pedophile (which he isn't, because Mario is awesome, and pedophiles can't be awesome), Princess Toadstool is probably in her late twenties.

Princess Zelda, on the other hand, is always portrayed as the same age as Link. Whatever age Link is in a given game, that's how old Zelda is. So, at her oldest, Zelda is never more than 17 or 18 years old.

Now, here's the punchline. This means that Princess Toadstool is something like ten years older than Princess Zelda.

So, when you see the two princesses talking together as they watch the opening match between Mario and Kirby in SSB Brawl, they're not speaking as peers. It's more like:

Zelda: Oh, your highness, I hope I can be as wise and as benevolent a ruler as you someday.

Peach: You will be, child. You will be.

Now, doesn't that just blow your freakin' mind?

Regardless, there would still be quite an age difference. However, I have friends who are quite a bit older than myself, so I don't know if it would necessarily change the nature of the relationship drastically.

Because Zelda has never been portrayed as older than 17 or 18, and Princess Toadstool would have to be in her late twenties in order to be Mario's love interest.

MM: But you didn't put it out of the realm of possibilities that Mario could be, say, 29. So why would Peach have to also be around that age? She could be 19 or 20. Zelda at 18 could have a possibility of being only a year or two younger than Peach (or in the most technical sense, they could possibly be the same age).

Not that your spculations are out of the realm of possibilities, but they're not all that likely. After all, Peach looks younger than Zelda in most cases. Though it may only be a stylistic difference which causes the youthful appearance of Peach, I don't see her as 29.

Also it has been stated here that Zelda's age has not been cited on occassion, leaving more room for debate.

And of course, you could always make the case that Hylians age in different ways than humans. I'd say that, if we were going off of Brawl, it seems that Zelda and Peach have a more equal, friendly relationship than that of Peach being an older mentor; I'm thinking specifically about the scenes on the Halberd.

But Link has always been somewhere between 10 and 18 years old, depending on the game. And Zelda is always portrayed as being Link's age.

Zelda also has the Triforce of freakin' Wisdom. She may be 17 or 18, but she's also the person most deserving of the power of all Wisdom in Hyrule, which might make those conversations a little on-par, if not one-sided toward Zelda.

Not all the games are explicit, though. Like I said, I always got the impression that Zelda was older than Link in TP. Unless I just made that up in my head...

We don't know if Mushroom Kingdom humans age at the same rate as humans or earth or anywhere else for that matter. I think they age slower than the humans or Earth as aside from Mario being too incompetent to hold a job that's the only way I can think of to explain all of his diffrent jobs.

As for Peach being wise, well I won't call her a ditzy blonde but the Mushroom Kingdom to BeanBean Kingdome says alot about Her skills with finance management.
