Brawl (Wii, 2008) [Peanut Pop Gun only] This week I'm showcasing the primary weapons of the Donkey Kong clan in their N64 game, Donkey Kong 64. Technically, these are 5 individual weapons, the Coconut Gun (Donkey Kong), the Peanut Pop Gun (Diddy Kong), the Feather Bow (Tiny Kong), the Grape Shooter (Lanky Kong), and the Pineapple Launcher (Chunky Kong), however as they really have no adverse effect from one another I may as well just introduce them altogether. Obtained from Funky Kong's Armory, the weapons were really your only resource for long-ranged attacks, although they shared other uses as well, such as button activation. They each used different ammunition which was never too short in supply, listing in order; coconuts, peanuts, feathers, grapes, and pineapples. Each weapon was also modeled after a specific type of normal weapon from the game, again listed in order; shotgun, hand guns, crossbow, blowgun, and bazooka/rocket launcher. FUN FACT: In the beta versions of DK64, there were a few notable changes to the weapon's designs. To be specific, the Coconut Gun was going to look more like a double barreled shotgun, while the Peanut Pop Gun looked like real black handguns (most likely changed for the censors). Beyond their debut in DK64, however, they've had little screen time, give a few exceptions. The Pineapple Launcher made a return appearance in Donkey Kong Barrel Blast on the Wii, although strangely Chunky Kong wasn't as lucky and was not featured in that game. Most notable the Peanut Pop Gun has since its appearance has been regarded as Diddy Kong's default weapon, and has even been featured as his primary attack in Super Smash Bros: Brawl, along with his Rocketbarrel's from the same game. ONE MORE FUN FACT: "His coconut gun can fire in spurts, if he shoots ya its gonna hurt!" was once voted as the fourth worst line in a video game ever by the magazine Electric Gaming Monthly in January, 2002. ![]() Item of the week #1: Hammer Item of the week #2: Boo Mushroom Item of the week #3: Metal Cap Item of the week #4: Tanooki Suit Item of the week #5: Ice Flower Item of the week #6: Thunderbolt |
