Game of the Week #26

Mario Clash (VB, 1995)

One of three Mario Universe games released for the ill-fated Virtual Boy, Mario Clash was inspired by the gameplay of the 1983 classic Mario Bros. The gameplay would take place in a single-screen room infested with enemy characters, and Mario would be challenged to defeat said enemies by flinging Koopa shells at them. Most of these enemies would have to be struck from the side, however, so Mario would have to take advantage of the Virtual Boy's 3D capabilities and use pipes to travel between the stage's foreground and background.

Here's a gameplay video to make it clearer. (To skip the introduction and go right to the gameplay, go to 1:53)

Additionally, a microgame based on Mario Clash appears in WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!

Seems like a perfectly fine Mario puzzle, not at all surprised they released it again off of the Virtual Boy, even as only a Mirco Game.

But damn! That music and the sound effects in that preview clip are horror! Off-key and grating!

Is it the game that's red an black, or is that the Virtual Boy?

You'd think after how many times Mario has used Koopa Shells against the enemy, Bowser would think to invest in some glue for his troops.

Well, the Virtual Boy only features red over black color, and this game is for the VB, so both I guess.
