Game of the Week #27

Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 (GB, 1994)

After his successful debut as an arch-villain in Super Mario Land 2, Wario took center stage for the first of many quirky adventures in Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. Focusing on Wario's effort to find and/or steal enough money to buy himself a cozy little castle, Wario Land introduced many aspects of Wario's character for which he is famous today, including his lust for treasure, his affinity for garlic, and his direct, take-no-prisoners method of bashing, mauling, and brutalizing his enemies. (The explosive flatulence, however, would not come until some years later.)

Only played 4, but I love it. Except for that domino level.

I played Super Mario Land 2, but not 3, so I missed Wario's first playable appearance until I decide to pick it up. Looks like a cool game though, certainly seems surprising they suddenly turned the game around into being a Super Mario spin-off and give the series completely to Wario.
