Both the instruction booklet and official players' guide describe Banjo and Conker as "taking time out from their own adventures to help Diddy free Timber's Island", or something suitably expositional like that. |

Diddy Kong Racing was technically the first game to be released that featured Banjo and Conker, but, as I pointed out, Banjo and Conker's own franchises were already deep in development and highly anticipated at the time. People knew where the characters really came from. (I remember the hype. "Hey, wow, Banjo and Conker are gonna be playable characters. That's pretty cool. I wonder if there's a way to pull Kazooie out of Banjo's backpack.") They were crossing over from their own franchises to make an appearance in a Mario universe game. |

It's one thing to call Sonic a 'guest star' in SSBB, or Link a guest star in 'Soul Calibur 2', because those serii existed before their presence (and, in SC's case, would continue to exist afterward). Just seems like a real grungy nitpicky technicality. |

It's Diddy Kong's game, so everything created specifically for DKR falls under his auspices. Banjo and Conker, however, were just crossing over from their own, separate franchises. EDIT: Oh, and thanks to scoping out a couple of gameplay walkthroughs at Gamefaqs (don't know why I didn't think of that earlier, actually), I've been able to confirm that both Thwomp and Chain Chomp do, in fact, appear in The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, and I've updated the compendium accordingly.
