Mario Tennis (N64, 2000)

The successful follow-up to Mario Golf, Mario Tennis is a simple but fun approach to a sport that's easier to understand and play. Replay value, precise controls, and lots of options and modes (including a game played on a Bowser's Castle court using Mario Kart-style attack items, and a game that challenges you to return balls fired by Piranha Plants) make this entry into Mario's wide world of sports a winner. Mario Tennis is also notable for introducing the world to Waluigi (for better or for worse), and for bringing Birdo and Princess Daisy back into the mainstream. It also marked the first playable appearances by Shy Guy, Paratroopa, and Boo.

A Game Boy Color version of Mario Tennis was released in early 2001.

Mario Power Tennis is pretty fun. It would be fun if I played it with friends, though.

Admittedly, I loved this game. The monotony of it all was only tolerated with the anticipation of starring characters and watching the trophy ceremonies.

e.g. A Lakitu jacks Luigi's trophy, Birdo is blown off the stage by her own eggs, and Toad produces tiny mushrooms with his spores.

That last one was like

I also got Power Tennis. Luigi sees a Shy Guy without his mask in that one.
