According to the game, Pixls used to be humans (one of the few times the game will actually refer to human beings other than immediately featured plumbers and princesses), the main Pixl, Tippi's, former human form having been a key character to the plot and villain of the game, Count Bleck. According to backstory, Pixls were created by the ancients to do work for them, and eventually the society grew dependent on them. When the Pixl Queen rose to take control of all the Pixls to rebel agaisnt the ancients, it led to a great time of grief before the queen was put to rest, however now fearful of the Pixls, the Ancients turned their backs to them, and eventually faded from existence, unable to support themselves without the Pixl's help. Long-winded history aside, Pixls are quite useful aids that Mario needs to use throughout Super Paper Mario. There are nine Pixls that are verbatim to basic gameplay, Tippi (who gives tips), Thoreau (to throw), Boomer (to make explosions), Slim (allows Mario to get paper thin), Thudley (to ground pound), Carrie (turns into a platform), Fleep (to flip objects and make them visible), Cudge (to hammer), and Dottie (to shrink Mario to mini size). In addition to the main roster, there are a total of four optional Pixls, Barry (creates barriers), Dashell (for s speed boost), Piccolo (cures status problems), and Tiptron, who is actually not a true Pixl as its a robot, but is used to replace Tippi after she leaves at the end of the game. FUN FACT: In BETA images of the unreleased Gamecube version of Super Paper Mario, a strange ladder-shaped Pixl appears (as shown), but was never seen in the Wii version of the final game. In general, Pixls are extremely useful, and each one is its own reusable item, able to perform its own useful task completely separate from another. They have made no other appearances besides in Super Paper Mario, taking up the place of Mario's normal allies from the previous paper Mario games. As allies don't regularly cross-over between games, it is very likely this will be the one and only time we'll see the Pixls in action, but regardless, they made a quite useful cast of characters to help Mario through his quest . . . which one is your favorite? Dashell was well-worth breezing through the Pit for. I did the Flipside Pit of 100 Trials after saving Luigi while Peach and Bowser were still lost. Mario Bros. all the way. |
