Each Sunday, I'll post a new poll, and anyone can respond to it. Aside from just voting in the poll, try sharing your answer and telling a little bit about why you chose it. Maybe we can strike up some good discussion. Anywho, here's the first poll: what was the best 2D Mario platformer? We're talking about mainline platformers here, so the choices are Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario Land, Super Mario World, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, New Super Mario Bros., and New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Which one do you think was the best, for whatever reason? Personally, I'm going to have to say Super Mario Bros. 3. I've played all of these games, and SMB3 is one that has had the greatest replayability, the most interesting levels, and it's also fun in multiplayer. I have a lot of memories playing it as a kid with my best friend at the time. Ahhh, good times they were. Vote and post your thoughts. |

It's big, it's diverse, it's hugely fun and enjoyable, and it's overflowing with things to discover. Great characters, fantastic level design, and some true "WTF?" moments thrown in for spice. And it has just about the best graphics and music the NES ever saw. |

Its also the first video game I can remember beating to the end. I remember it because as soon as I beat it I ran downstairs to tell my parents and they found out I had caught chicken pox! SMW and SMBW are probabaly close seconds . . . but SMW was a little easier than SMB3 and SMBW, although fun, did seem gimmicky at times. Plus SMB3 had the best item! The Power Leaf and Tanooki Suits are still probabaly some of my favorite power-ups! |

I've enjoyed all of the 2-D platformers I've played, but I liked this one the most. It was a lot easier than the others, but I spent most of my time running around to random levels on my Yoshi and eating stuff, so that didn't really matter. :{P |

Sure, I played SMB3 when I was a kid, but since the NES was at my grandma's house, I only played it about once a week. But I would carry my Game Boy with me at all times, hopping and popping those Goombas. Also, Star Maze. |

A poll is something quick and easy to do, so I figured I'd do that instead of Top 10 lists (which I stopped doing weekly about a year ago, I think) for now. |

In first place is Super Mario Bros. 3 with 6 votes (54.55%), followed by Super Mario World with 4 votes (36.36%), then Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins with 1 vote (9.09%), and the rest with zilch. That was a nice turnout. Now, let's all head onto the new week's poll. |

With Super Mario Galaxy 2 coming out later this year, it seems appropriate enough. So far we've only had three real 3D platformers in the series: Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. Pick the one you think is the best. I'm going to go with Super Mario 64. While I like both Sunshine and Galaxy (the latter being one of my favorite games this generation), I think 64 best translates the familiar Mario platforming and gameplay of the original 2D games into a 3D world. The worlds are varied and fun, and I've never gotten bored playing it. SM64 is probably one of the best and most enveloping games I've ever played, even to today. Vote and share your opinions. |

I think I'll go with Super Mario 64 as well. Though Super Mario Galaxy is awesome with a capital AWE, I think 64, like Val said, represents the best transition from Mario's previously 2D world. Throw in the nostalgia factor, the innovation factor, and the "ripped off by everybody else in the industry" factor, and I've simply got to cast my vote in that direction. |

Sunshine was fun and all, but getting rid of most of his classic moves seemed annoying, and Galaxy still had a bit of that too. I even love the DS remake, if mostly for Wario, but yeah. It had excellent music, great transformations, and sweet skills. You just can't get much better. Note: Super Paper Mario is kind of a 3-D platformer, but fair enough, since it only uses it sometimes. |
