Who knows how many hundreds of hours we've clocked on those classic masterpieces over the years? We love them, and we're always going back to them, even today. That's why it was totally awesome when Nintendo released an all-in-one compilation of those games for the Super NES! The gameplay remained perfectly intact (unlike that of the Super Mario Advance remakes), but our old favorites were given impressive cosmetic enhancements in the departments of graphics and sound, bringing them up to date with the 16-bit era. Not only that, but Nintendo included a welcome save feature. Now you could play a straight, warp-free game of SMB 3 without killing the entire afternoon! Of course, one of the major selling points of Super Mario All-Stars was its inclusion of the original Japanese version of SMB 2, which Nintendo christened "The Lost Levels" for these shores. This was the first opportunity that Western gamers had to play this game, and it went over big. Last edited by Metal Mario; 04-03-2010 at 08:01 AM. |

We had tons of fun together. Then one summer he moved away. Then I spent the next eight years socially withdrawn. |

We'd go over to play it all the time, but their SNES was dying and the screen made everything look purplish. Soo my sister and I named Peach [the only character we ever played] "Blackberry" because she was closer to the color of a Blackberry than a Peach. Goood times. Then their SNES died. |

This is one of the games I never decided to buy. If I actually owned a SNES at the time, I might've, but I didn't. Sure, I own one now, but I own all those games(and only need to download The Lost Levels). Save system is nice and all, but not everybody needs it. Maybe I'm a masochist when it comes to the first games, but hey, that's part of the challenge that I prefer. |

Never having owned an NES at the time, I was psyched to expand my Super Mario Bros. experience past SMW. The game was my first exposure to SMB1-3 (and of course the Lost Levels). Still one of my most-played SNES games. In fact, a few months ago, my brother and I went through all of Super Mario Bros 3 in a single night. Man, that was fun. Quote:
They're not bad at all, but aside from the control issues on the GCN version, I think that the Mega Man Anniversary Collection has them beat. | |
