Cranky's very cranky in this game.

A step in the right direction from some of non-Rare DK games.

CSM, just get the game. It's enjoyable.

My mild complaining aside, it's a fun, well made game that I'd recommend to anyone. Just don't think of it as Donkey Kong Country and enjoy it for what it is.

I don't have any problem thinking of it as DKC. It's just a little bit faster-paced and has new mechanics. DKC for the new age, if you will.

^I like fast paced games; they add a missing challenge. NSMB and NSMBW slowed down the pace from the original Mario side-scrollers, for instance.

I'm listening to the game's music and they actually did a good job bringing back some of the DKC classic songs, but I do miss some of the DKC2 and 3 songs (particularly Stickerbrush Symphony). -CSM

You can always play DKC2 or 3 if you miss them that much, you know. The music isn't really anything I think anyone should complain about. The stuff that made it in the game is definitely, definitely some of the best of the series.

The lack of Kremlings isn't really an issues so much as how forgettable some of the enemies in this game have been, especially when they replaced the giant bees with enemies that behave identically. There are good ones in it, though.

The gameplay is fast paced, and I do like it, but it's seriously very different in execution to DKC. The stuff I would complain about has been mostly unimportant things like just how unimpressed I am with the world map.

The animal friends... I would have liked to see Enguarde return, but there aren't any swimming levels. That's not a diss on the game, I don't really care for underwater levels. They could have stuck him in as a helper like Squawks, though. The rest were unimportant and overall the whole animal friends thing is kind of one of the cornier principles in oldschool video games as a whole.

Speaking of lame, the DK family are the epitome of it. I'm glad they didn't return to spoil my enjoyment of it.

the only reasons i can see why you guys think it's not DKC are:

1. graphical style

2. the fact that due to better technology, it feels different in the way it plays. we've come a long way since the hit detection of the original games and it's a lot easier to tell where you need to be to hit something. there is no feeling of fast-paced at all, what? maybe it's the set pieces you guys are thinking of??? every level of the original games was also fast-paced, perhaps it is the camera and set pieces that give a different feeling of speed or something?
