Okay, I got this idea from The Muppet Christmas Carol. Someone names a movie (preferably a universally well-known one), and other members post their cast lists of Mario characters in the roles. Since A Christmas Carol was the original inspiration here, let's start with that.

Here are my picks for the cast:

Scrooge.....Cranky Kong
Bob Cratchit.....Luigi
Mrs. Cratchit.....Princess Daisy
Tiny Tim.....Mallow
Other Cratchit children.....Kooper, Goombaria, Goombella
Fred (Scrooge's nephew).....Donkey Kong
Fred's wife.....Candy Kong
Jacob Marley.....Wario
Christmas Past.....Geno
Christmas Present.....Taj
Christmas Future.....Smithy
Isabelle (Scrooge's old squeeze).....Pauline
Fezziwig.....Professor E. Gadd

The Original Star Wars Trilogy

Luigi as Luke Skywalker (they're both troubled characters, and their names both start with "Lu")
Princess Peach as Princess Leia Organa (they're both princesses)
Mario as Han Solo (they're both rough-and-tumble characters who get the girl in the end)
Yoshi as Chewbacca (duh)
Bowser as Darth Vader (why not?)
Geno as Obi-Wan Kenobi (they both kick ass)
Donkey Kong as Lando Calrissian (I am not a racist)
Toad as R2-D2 (they're both secretly the coolest character)
Daisy as C-3P0 (they're both rather annoying)
Rosalina as Yoda (it could work)
Kamek as Emperor Palpatine (close enough)
Mouser as Grand Moff Tarkin (he played Bowser's right-hand man in the SMBSS, anyway)
Wario as Boba Fett (sort of works)
Petey Piranha as Jabba the Hutt (they're both fat bastards)
