Who do you play as? Mario, the well-rounded one? Luigi, who's not too strong but can jump the highest? Toad, the worst jumper but the quickest and best at picking things up? Or Toadstool, who can glide through the air briefly?

I usually main as Luigi. It's a bit difficult to control him, but once you've got him figured out, his jumping is invaluable.

Just joshing. Usually Princess. The hover ability is just too awesome back when my motor cortex wasn't as awesome as it is now. I historically switched it up with Toad, because he can pick stuff up really quickly.

If I were to play it how, I'd probably use Mario more. I couldn't stand Luigi; his floaty jumps and waggly legs grated on me.

Luigi. But, that's a given. I'd occasionally pick Peach too. I can't play with Mario or Toad, since I got too used to the slow characters.

I usually play as Princess Toadstool. Her jumping is very useful and the trade offs of hers that might be worse than others they are not bad enough. Luigi sometimes, his jumping can be useful but he is too touchy. Mario doesn't really have any advantages that I noticed and basically Toad just runs faster and picks stuff up easier which isn't very worth it to me.

Toad's biggest drawback is his pathetic jump height. You have to do that jump-charge thing to clear some walls. It'd probably be more annoying now, but I was a very patient child.

Funny, I'm the complete opposite. I was always the impatient child, high strung child, and now I'm pretty much relaxed about everything. Gamewise at least.

I find myself rotating between Mario and Luigi most of the time, but I absolutely use Toad for those damn levels where you need to dig through the sand.

I've always played as Peach. It started out as being a little girl who wouldn't play as anyone who wasn't a girl AND pretty [fun fact: this is also the reason I convinced myself Link was a girl in my early years], and then just kind of stuck as a habit. Plus, floating is fun.

I definitely use Toadstool most of the time, although recently I've favored Mario. Hover jump is fantastic, and looks hilarious while you're ducking.

This reminds me of an SMB2 hacking tool I once saw. If you wanted, you could give a character Luigi's jump, Toadstool's hover, and Toad's speed and strength, making THE ULTIMATE.
