Similarly, in Yoshi's Island, there were pipes that infinitely spawned Shy Guys. You could even enter the pipes and find little rooms with a few Shy Guys shuffling around. These pipes and vases appear all over the place. You, as the player, assume they're there to serve either as a nuisance, or as a place where Yoshi can restock his egg supply. But what's the explanation from the Shy Guys's point of view? Think about it. Those Shy Guys live inside pipes. They're homeless. They were just coming out of the pipes to panhandle. And then you picked them up and threw them at their friends, or swallowed them and turned them into eggs. The truth is, there's a terrible homeless crisis in the Mushroom Kingdom, and Shy Guys are majorly afflicted by it. They wander around all day aimlessly, because they can't get work due to the widespread racial profiling headed by the Toads. They don't avoid, and indeed hardly seem to care, when Mario, Yoshi and co. come along and grab them, throw them, stomp on them or eat them. It's a cruel life for those Shy Guy. But it's the only one they know. |

They were doing magic spells, addicted to magic mushrooms, and constantly playing Magic: The Gathering. One problem though: SMB2 is in Sub-Con. Does this mean that the Shy Guys in Mushroom Kingdom are really migrant workers who are getting profiled against, Grapes of Wrath-style? |
