I mean sure we got 3 Mario Parties and 2 Mario sports games but there never was a follow up to SM64. I mean I remember when N64 was "out" I kept hoping they would make some form of sequel to SM64. The closest things we got were Paper Mairo and Yoshi's Story. I mean N64 had the least Mario games (I'm excluding cam. in non-mario games) than any other system save for maybe Virtual Boy. What happened, did Super Mario 64 sell poorly or was Nintendo just too caught up with Pokemon? |

Super Mario 64 was a very popular game, yet Nintendo didn't make a sequel for it until Super Mario Sunshine, which was completely subpar in my opinion. This would imply that either A: it failed somehow, financially as you suggest or otherwise, or B: they WERE too caught up in the Pokemon craze. Super Mario 64 was released... what was it, six years before its sequel? Systems come out faster than that... and they did. That's quite a good question, in my opinion... one for which I have no answer. |

Hmm... Luigi's Mansion is about vacuuming, SMS is about cleaning graffiti... what's next, a game about the virtues of yard work? I left this place for about a year once. Then the same sort of "mental breakdown" happened to me. |

It was the most successful N64 game by far. The easy answer is that EAD was busy with Zelda, then GCN software. [ August 03, 2004, 05:32 AM: Message edited by: FM ] |

It was the best selling N64 game as it was stated already. I say the "in and of itself" part because they really should have made a sequal. But of course, they waited till SMS to make one and that was barely a sequal to SM64 at all(didn't do too well either). --------------------------------- ~Gamer Chris ![]() |

But, it did lack to the other Mario games I have played. Where is the idiot running to? Why to Nintendo Mania of course. Just follow him for the time of your life. |

M&L is the worst Mario RPG so far, and SMS wasn't as good as SM64. I think that Double Dash is the best Mario Kart, though... |

Anyway, sure, SMS wasn't as good as Super Mario 64, but I liked it. I had a lot of fun with Super Mario Sunshine and now I'm actually replaying it to get all the shine sprites. Quote:
By the way, Mario Golf: Toadstool TOur may not be original, but it's a sequel that is much, much better than the first.

I agree with you for the most part Ocarina. Though I got disapointed with the Mario franchise mid N64 (when we had Mario Party after Mario Party). Though I did start to like it near the end (Mario Tennis, Paper Mario). Yes I know in another topic I said I didn't like Paper Mario and in the long run I don't think it's that great but it beats Mario Part 3 (although I'm considering replaying Paper Mario to see if theres something I missed). I also like Luigi's Mansion, but after that Nintendo in general took a turn for the worst. Although Double Dash is an amazing game.
