Since there doesn't seem to already be a thread for it.

New from E3:

Mario Kart 3DS Adds Gliders and Underwater Areas

Quote:

Nintendo showed off its new Mario Kart game for 3DS today, including some brand-new features.

Tracks can now go underwater, at which point your kart will get a propeller on the back that pushes you along. Also new is a glider that can pop out of the top of your kart to let you glide across segments of a track. You can also customize components of your kart -- you can pick the design of your glider, the body of the kart itself, and the wheels.

It's also got all the familiar components -- there were question mark boxes, red shells, and bananas seen in the trailer. The game will be available on 3DS holiday 2011.

The glider/underwater thing reminds me of Diddy Kong Racing. I can't wait to play this game.

Getting hit by a Blue Shell will now destroy your glider/propeller. You will have to be saved by a Lakitu.

bigger number of karts and it seems you can pick wheel size(when they show mario switching karts)

This looks amazing. I definitely cannot wait.

Also, the kart selection system seems similar to Mario Kart DS, where every cart is available to everyone. So I can only hope that the Dry Bomber will be making its return!

Something that I was super excited for but neglected to mention: COINS. Haven't seen those since Super Mario Kart, and man am I glad to see 'em!

This is starting to sound pretty cool. I guess we'll have to see if they finally nerfed the ****ty godmode items or at least gave us an item menu like in SSB. A menu wouldn't be too hard to implement, you know. In fact, it's something of a necessary feature that they've been desperately lacking.

I want a course builder, though, thanks.

So in other words, you want the Blue Shell to be completely useless.

Because I remember how "effective" it was in MK64 after you shot it.

^Yeah, it ran along the track, tearing through every poor schmuck that veered into its path as it relentlessly stalked the leader, eventually blowing said leader over the railing of Rainbow Road. Instead of just hitting the leader & knocking him BACK a couple places, not actually helping you at all, it hit everyone in front of you & moved you UP a couple places.

Unless you were careless & fired it point-blank into a wall.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Huh. Lucky you, then. Grounded Spiny Shells never worked for me; I must've been doing it wrong.

Still, how the hell would a grounded Spiny Shell follow you on your glider?
