Bizarre spin-off characters

While I'm flooding my forum with polls... Mario Kart 7 came out recent, and raised a few eyebrows with some of the strange choices in unlockable characters it had, such as Wiggler, Lakitu, and Honey Queen. However, characters that you'd never expect to be playable in a Mario spin-off title have done so anyway countless times in the past.

What are your favorite odd spin-off characters? Conversely, which ones are your least favorite?

Blooper, Funky Kong and Metal Mario were pretty unexpected for their games.

Funky Kong, Wiggler, Dry Bones, and Dry Bowser are all awesome.

I can't stand Honey Queen. I want to punch whoever made that decision. Same goes for Petey Piranha...

baby luigi is my favorite, and i actually really like the honey queen

but wiggler and dry bowser are plain stupid

Honey Queen was probably the worst character from Mario Galaxy they could have put in there. It certainly was a huge missed opportunity to include a much better character. I mean come on:

He's a Boo with a RACING HELMET on. That would have been infinitely more awesome.

Dry Bones and Koopa Troopa for my favourites from that list... and least favourite would be baby Mario... I guess I'm still traumatised by all the wailing he does when he's floating freeeeeeeee...

I loved seeing Metal Mario- I'm not exactly opposed to the inclusion of Honey Queen, but your complaints make complete sense. Dry Bowser is really cool, especially considering that he was in Spoiler Below

I liked Metal Mario until I started playing online.

Especially since anyone playing as Metal Mario would usually pick Maka Wuhu.
