Sonic is so random for the ending.

Okay, Tabuu imprisons everyone and gets more powerful...so out of nowhere in the subspace we see Sonic fly in destroying his wings. Uhh where have you been all this time Sonic!!!???

They added him in as they were probably near the end of work on the SSE. With 99% of the plot already set in stone, they had no choice but to probably chuck him in at the very end stages of feature creation--which, guess what, would be the very end.

You can tell several unlockables came late, too--the slapdash additions of them AFTER the story is over is very telling.

Well, at least I'm not the only one who is confused by that.

This logic falls apart when you realize one of these characters is Jigglypuff.

SEGA's weird about letting other people handle Sonic. In all likelihood they didn't want him to be depicted as being "defeated" by any Nintendo character.

^You bring up a good point. Let's look at the story differences between Snake and Sonic. I believe Hideo Kojima let Nintendo use Snake more because he wanted him to be in. Sonic, on the other hand, probably took a lot of discussion and Sega wanted to promote the Sonic franchise within the game as opposed to Metal Gear Solid. What better way to promote your mascot than to have it come out on top on another company's franchise? I also noticed the Silver Hedgehog sticker and the new music from "SONIC THE HEDGEHOG (2006). This shocked me as that game was meant for the XBOX360 and PS3.

There's just too many conondrums that go along with having Sega included in SSBB.

Sonic was clearly not in Subspace yet when Tabuu did the first kill-shot, because he's not trophified, he didn't have a Dedede badge, and no one revived him. Sonic was clearly not at the maze yet when the player's party enters, because they would have crossed paths.
Thus, Sonic probably first enters Subspace around the same time that the player's party enters the maze, and thanks to super-speed, catches up just as the party reaches Tabuu, and just in time to stop the second kill-shot by utilizing the aforementioned super-speed to break Tabuu's wings, as no one else would have been able to bridge that distance in time.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Sonic doesn't even destroy Tabuu's wings. He stuns him for about one second. He regenerates them every time he does his shockwave attack.

^^That sounds like the most logical answer, but this isn't specified, so we'll never know.

I've never actually got that far, but I have seen the videos on YouTube, and it's just... so random.

^^He weakens them somewhat. So, instead of killing everyone, they can only kill one guy.

"Heroes always arrive late."

Oh, and the whole Sega thing.

^Exactly.

Sega may not have wanted Sonic to get beat in the storyline, but the tradeoff was that he had to play catchup.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

I remember a funny part on Sonic X when the government's military claims that their technology is out of date and that they don't stand a chance against Eggman so they beg for the president to send in Sonic, the world's only hope of defeating Eggman and his entire army. Apparently Sonic is so much more powerful than GUN could ever hope to be.

Hm.

Well, perhaps they didn't want Jigglypuff in the storyline--though that continues to enforce the replacement idea of "SEGA was funny about Sonic when it came to fighting Ninty characters"

I'm probably going to side with that idea too, as SEGA is rather paranoid about how Sonic is seen in that fashion--even though, in their own hands, they idly butcher Sonic's image.

^^I rather disagree. Sega has given Sonic a more mature image compared to how Nintendo has created Mario's silly immaturity. This is seen OBVIOUSLY in Shadow the Hedgehog. Sega wanted a T rated Sonic game. This is a lot better in marketing, in my opinion, in that Sega wanted their mascot to grow up alongside their fans. Mario can be defined as ageless, however. Let's also note that Sonic's storylines have also been more mature (he dies once!).

I agree with WVW, but I also think that what with Super Paper Mario being so dark that argument loses a little ground not alot just a little.

^^Super Paper Mario wasn't that dark. It was more along the lines of a humorous joke taken way too far. Do I need to bring up Digibutter.nerr, Francis, or O'Chunks? Sonic games don't really go into getting cheap laughs in a game. Super Paper Mario did...several times. It's not a bad thing, but it just further proves my point that the Sonic series is way more mature than the Mario series.

If you find Super Paper Mario dark, then you must live a very very sheltered life. Super Paper Mario is by no means dark to me when compared to Sonic's recent adventures. Have you ever seen a Mario game end up with a depressing ending once? Nahh. Sonic Adventure 2's ending was pretty sad when Shadow fell down after losing Super Form. It was also depressing when we learned about Shadow's TRUE past after Shadow the Hedgehog. Mario has also had everything work out in the end somehow.

Compared to Sonic's recent games no it's not dark at all but compared to other Mario games (Save maybe Thousand Year Door) It was alot darker.

QUESTION: Okay, so on Dojo, it says that the Island of the Ancients couldn't withstand all the explosions of the subspaces, and subsequently blew up.

How the hell did everyone survive?
