| The Bee's Knees Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: The land of rain and trees (Oregon) Gender: Posts: 29,755 Thanks: 1,649 Thanked 5,701 Times in 2,581 Posts Blog Entries: 20 | Share Your Smash Tactics Yo, why not share with each other some of our own tactics we use while playing the Smash Bros. games? Share our strengths and weaknesses, give each other some new insight on fighting, and maybe even impart others with some Smashly wisdom. Plus, I'd like to know how everyone else here kicks ass in Smashland. Now, my main character as of Brawl is Meta Knight. I like him because he's agile, has moderately powerful attacks, and because he has limited flight and several good flying moves, recovery is never an issue with him. If not Meta Knight, I usually go for Pit for the same reasons, or Sonic because his freakish speed can get you a lot of places once you figure out how to control it. In Melee, I used Ganondorf, but in Brawl he was toned down to be less heavy and powerful, and sort of neutralized a lot of his abilities. Either way, Ganondorf is usually my powerhouse pick. Other characters I use are Kirby, for many the same reasons as Meta Knight and Pit, and Mario because of his well-roundedness. While attacking, I tap and perform a lot of smash attacks. If caught in a rut, I use regular attacks to get people out of my face. I like aerial attacks, especially when coming down from above onto an opponent. One thing I enjoy to abuse is juggling, attacking and throwing opponents into the air and then keeping them up there. As Meta Knight, it's very easy to get other players in the air, and since Meta Knight has limited flight, you can keep hitting them higher and higher until they get knocked out of the arena. I rarely ever use my shield or dodge. Usually I just jump to avoid attacks, or take them in and use the opportunity to strike back. There's often a lot of flying around the stage to avoid opponents once my damage percentage is high so I can regroup and get them into a spot I want them. For Final Smashes, it's usually never as much me wanting to break the Smash Ball as much as it is keeping anyone else from doing it. Meta Knight's final is alright, but a hassle to get a person into range. With other characters like Pit or Sonic, I'd be much more eager to get my hands on the Smash Ball since their finals are more useful. I excel in stock matches. I can win timed matches, but I tend to have a harder time keeping up. As for items, I pick up whatever I can but usually don't go out of my way to get them. I don't bother with hammers on larger stages. I use shells more often than other people seem to due to their good launching ability. I'll pick up Homerun Bats, but usually just for the battering and not for the smash attack. Beam Swords and Star Rods, okay, fans and crap, don't bother. With the Dragoon, it's like the Smash Ball: rarely ever me wanting it as much as me not wanting anyone else to get it. Those're my basic strategies. Share your own, folks, and don't worry about being as long and detailed summaries like mine, it's two in the morning and I'm bored out of my mind. |

I also sometimes use Snake, I use alot of Mines and C4's to try and screw up my enamies with traps, I also use the Morter (That move is Strategic) to launch bombs in the air then do my disableing grap move and let the bomb come down on those bitch's. I also use Kirby, when I'm Kirby I use his copy Powers and Powerful grabs to my advantage, as well as insane jumps and the ocasional Kirby-cide. I also have some sweet Peach combos, but I don't feel like shareing them |

I use him because he is a balanced character no real weaknesses, or strengths. Usually I’ll start of with a lot of A-attacks, I’ll just keep punching away headless of damage. Once the enemy has enough damage (95% or higher) I’ll try to grab them near the edge of the stage and do Mario’s spin throw. If my opponent is using ranged attacks I’ll use the cape and fireball more. During stock matches I usually do a lot more running, and jumping, to avoid attacks, because I’m very aware of my limited lives. Other than that my attack plan doesn’t change much. In a coin match I usually hang out near the edge of the stage and use a lot of smash attacks, and throws. If an item is close to me I’ll grab it. But the only items I’ll go charging after are Star Man, Smash-ball, Dragoon, Pokeball, assist trophy, and banana peel(they are just fun). Tip: When fighting against me as Kiry NEVER EVER take my special ability, doing so causes me to go into a blind rage. Which usually ends with us both dieing. |

I think I'm even better with Shiek. I sprint up to the enemy while attacking, and Shiek rushes through them doing damage. And, when my enemy is mid-air, a do an up smash attack. Then, when my enemy is on the ground, I jump up and kick down on them. |

Gender: Posts: 7,155 Thanks: 559 Thanked 225 Times in 181 Posts Blog Entries: 6 | Kirby: Generally, I use his hammer in the air (Two Swings and not much windup and lag = awesome). A favorite tactic of mine for Kirby is to use his strong (as opposed to smash) attacks much more frequently as well as his Front and Back Aerials and his up aerial when my foes are above me. His Dash attack also rules too. It's rare for me to copy my foe (maybe I should copy a little more often...). Meta Knight: Aggression and lots of it, especially with his Ground tilt forward A attacks and side (both of them) aerials. I sometimes use the "wall of pain" with him. I rarely use his specials in combat. Lucario: Mostly Aerial Down-A; it's an excellent set-up move for me, as well as tilt Side-A. Aura Sphere is usually charged. My favorite character (besides Kirby) because of his "Aura". There's something I like about getting hurt = more power. ![]() About a few usual Items: Home Run Bat: Usually thrown; it's ridiculously powerful like that... Smash Ball, Poke Ball, Assist Trophy, and Dragoon: Grab ASAP! Too strong if used right/get lucky. Beam Sword: Range when I need it or strength when Aura isn't powered up enough. Smart Bomb: Usually thrown, but I'm close to the explosion if I'm Lucario; easy damage without much knockback. Superspicy Curry: Yum!!! Eat ASAP! Pitfall: Great setup item! I'm usually do Stock Matches. Something about the survival element excites me... ![]() |

Smash Bros is one of those games where tactics don't really help, they're just ideas you could try. |

Like, actually run up to them and quickly counter. Then you laugh as they attack. A trick with Ganondorf is to Flame Choke, then use a down kick to hurt them before they get up. You need to be fast. With Luigi, you should stay close to your foe. Don't use his Falcigi Punch so much that it becomes predictable. It can be used in mid-air, so consider that. Link can piss off people with his projectiles. Use them. Same with Toon Link. Multi-Man Melee from Melee is a great song, and you should have it at 100% for Battlefield. Eh, just some things I do. |

In Melee, I am a self professed master. I use Shiek mainly, also Mario. My tactics with Shiek are pretty simple, rain needles on people constantly to get damage high enough to do the air smack attack. If someone doesn't allow me room to breath, I usually just fight on edges, kick them off and use the spin kick to keep them off. I got more, I may put them in words later. |

I jump. Always. Dunno why. I enjoy turning my opponents around in midair with the cape. I also have a tendency to juggle my opponent with uppercuts before jumping up and bicycle kicking them. You get far away from me and you'll get a bunch of fireballs. Try to jump away and I'll either hit you with a Super Jump Punch or spike you with Mario's forward air, the Plunger. I also try to spend a lot of time in the air. I can't use F.L.U.D.D. I really try, but I can't time it, I can't charge it, and I can't control it. |

Many more I'm sure, but I gotta practice some to remember. |

(Addendum: In SSB64, Luigi is lord of the skies. Only Kirby & Jigglypuff can outfly him, & neither is as strong.) B) Travel by running only when necessary; roll dodging & Cyclone (in Melee & Brawl) are both faster. C) Spam fireballs. They do build up eventually. D) If the opportunity to successfully Fire Jump Punch opens up, don't pass it by. They never expect it the first time, and after that, you still get good chances. E) Don't use Green Missile to attack unless you're sure of your target and/or the stage edge. F) When you get a Smash ball, hold on until you can trap the most people. Once the Negative Zone activates, stay in it & take your time to line up Fire Jump Punch; it's an instant kill right now, provided there's no ceiling. G) Cyclone, though rarely used by the "pros," is your friend. It's a high-priority move that can do horizontal travel in 2 games, vertical travel in 2 games, & surprise kill shots in 2 games. More later. And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!" |

| Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: In YO FACE Gender: Posts: 1,033 Thanks: 41 Thanked 15 Times in 15 Posts | Luigi- 1- Against a low priority opponent, or someone who has to get up close to attack, Cyclone your way in. It can disrupt most moves, and is one of his best approaches. 2- Against someone like Marth or Meta Knight, who outclass you in range and priority, B-Air is your best friend. Short hop and B-Air your way in. It has good priority and has good range. Once you hit them, you can follow up with (Against Marth) many aerial attacks, and (Against Meta Knight) the priority god, N-Air, and then get the hell out of there. Luigi, who is like the 3rd/4th best character in the air has extreme trouble against MK in the air. 3- Against a huge guy, (Bowser, Ganondorf, D3) never be scared of getting up close. They are exceptionally easy to PING!!!! with your Up+ B. Bowser also happens to be a very easy match up for Luigi. 4- Against somebody with trouble approaching, (Ike, CF, Sonic) you should wait for them to approach you. Approaching Ike can be fatal; a forward smash can slaughter poor Luigi at around 40%. Wait for them to get near you, short hop a N-Air and Up-Air, and then they're all yours. Watch out for the Knee of Justice, and Sonic who has a decent aerial game. 5- Against Falco, just remember this- You can duck to avoid every shot of his epic blaster spamming. My friend spammed it like hell, and you just have to duck and crawl to him, and believe me, you will avoid every single shot. He'll stop to smash you away from him, so that is your chance to jump while he's not shooting, land a U-Air or N-Air and then let him have it. 6- Against Link and Samus, you want to get close. They are slow, and grabs will help here because you will disrupt their powerful moves, throw them up, and mess them up in the air. Link has a good air game but very little aerial priority; something Luigi has. 7- Snake. For the best character in the game, who is beyond broken, he is not a very hard match up for Luigi. Just B-Air and Fireball your way in. The Mortar Slide will get you. A lot. So use sidestep dodges very often; it will save you from a well placed up smash. Snake has a (mostly) weak air game, so you can take advantage of that. Beware of his B-Air and F-Air, for they are powerful. On the ground, you should approach him, because if he approaches, that means a Mortar Slide, which means bad. Always Fireball his Cleaver Mines, and beware of his C4- a good Snake will own you with them. The Nikita is no problem for Luigi's superior mobility, but it can chase you into mines and traps. You can also shoot a fireball if it's right next to you; this will slow it down for a second so you can jump over it. Snake is easy to gimp, so get him off the stage ASAP and you can make him eat your B-Airs and D-Airs. I pretty much gave a mini-match up guide, but it should help. I stick by my guides when I face these people, especially my Snake guide which I stick by when facing my cousin, who is a very good Snake. Beware of Meta Knight and Marth though. Meta Knight is Luigi's worse match up. |
