Master Hand represents the spirit of creativity necessary to craft beautiful and fun games. He's the visionary, the artist. Without him, all you have is the same tired **** over and over again.

Crazy Hand represents the spirit of destruction and conflict necessary to enjoy games. He's the one who makes the driving reasons to PLAY the game. Without him, all you have is pretentious artsy fartsy bull****. Lots of fluff, no substance.

In this case, what does Tabuu represent?

Tabuu represents series decay. Subspace represents terrible games. The dragging of things into Subspace through the bombs is the fall of what was once great. No single character could fight such a terrible force, thus, everyone who stood against Tabuu was defeated with ease. Even Master Hand, the spirit of creativity, couldn't hope to even begin to hope to lay a scratch on it alone. Maybe if his other half had been there.

This also, by the way, explains why Sonic didn't show up until he did. He had already been a prisoner of Tabuu's for a solid four-five years now. This also explains why Tabuu effortlessly destroys everybody else but Sonic ****ing blindsides him. Why would you expect somebody you've beaten consistently for four years to suddenly pose a threat to you?

I have always found Sonic's late cameo to suggest... he had either been through so many bad games that Tabuu was nothing (since Sonic has fought, as of now, over 5 different flying weirdoes like Tabuu before) or the above explanation. Heh.

My own idea about Sonic in SSE was that he'd simply not even entered "Smashworld" until after the first round of off-waves, & that he caught up with everybody at the end simply by virtue of the fact that he's Sonic the bleeping Hedgehog & he's just THAT fast.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Second, if you watch the cutscene where Samus and Pikachu leave the Research Facility, you can see a stone altar that looks almost exactly like the Shrine of the Master Emerald, sans Emeralds. As a wise judge once said: "two conicidences pointing to the same thing seems more like a pattern". What happened is this: a few days before everything happened, Knuckles suddenly received word that he had won an all-expenses paid vacation. The island was targeted because of its vague but powerful mystic importance, and becasue there was a culture of robots living inside it, which made the place perfect for Tabuu's plans.

Earth-Crossover was an alternate Earth established originally by a series of stories where DC and Marvel characters coexisted in the same universe. The profile above includes various other licensed properties that crossed over with Marvel characters or had comics published by Marvel. Using a series of crossovers, one can establish that the SSB universe is actually one mega-crossover universe. It works like this:

* Solid Snake appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. He previously appeared in another crossover fighting game, DreamMix TV World Fighters, which, among others (Beyblade, Bomberman, Castlevania, Twinbee, Gradius, Microman, and Bloody Roar), featured Optimus Prime and Megatron of Transformers, who were featured in their own Marvel comic book, where they met Spider-Man and Marvel-owned characters like Circuit Breaker. Marvel, of course, has had crossovers with DC (and thus bringing in Mortal Kombat and a bunch of others), Doctor Who, Star Trek and more. It also means that, by way of Marvel Vs Capcom and others, almost all Capcom characters are brought in, as well as The King Of Fighters (itself a crossover!) and numerous Tatsunoku anime characters. If you wanted to go even further, you could connect this universe to the Expanded Wold Newton Universe. So, in short, SSB is the lynchpin of one of the biggest crossovers by implication ever.

Ah. Yeah, running an SSB IRC RPG as I do, I've made a bunch of theories before.

In the end, though, it's the open-endedness which helps promote thinking that is the true meaning of SSB--all the what ifs caused by its sort of open presentation.

Sonic's appearance was strangley parallel to the Master Hand's defeat. Perhaps MH summoned him?
